INTERVIEW TIP: “Why should we hire you?”

With the ‘Why should we hire you’ question, what the interviewer wants to know is how you’ll bring value to the company & the role, so you want to focus on these things. ⁣

Here’s a suggested format to follow:⁣

1️⃣ DEMONSTRATE UNDERSTANDING⁣

Show that you understand the requirements of the job and call out a few of the qualities or skills listed that you have experience with.⁣

e.g. “I noticed the role requires X skill & Y experience.”⁣

2️⃣ WHY ARE YOU A GREAT FIT? GIVE AN EXAMPLE ⁣

Share your prior experience using a specific example (or two). Even better if you can share something that you excelled in, and any results you delivered.⁣

e.g. “In my previous role when I performed X, I was recognized for Y and received Z feedback.”⁣

3️⃣ WHY ARE YOU EXCITED?⁣

End with why you’re excited about the position and the company.⁣

e.g. “I’m really excited about the position because X and Y, and I really resonate with the company’s vision of Z.”⁣

Of course, you can also end with anything unique that can help you stand out and differentiate yourself too, like the fact that you’ll contribute your humor to team meetings, or bring your famous banana bread each month. ⁣

How would you answer this question? 👇

Interview Tip:
How long do you plan to stay in this job?

Tip:
Focus on what work environment you need to stay in a company for the long term instead of defending why you left previous jobs.

It's essential to clarify what motivates you when you are asked this question.

This will also help you understand if the company is right for you or not because if they don't encourage people to learn and grow and try new things and that's what drives you to stay long term. It's not the best option for you.

You got this all the best. 🚀

Here’s a guide to answering the salary question in an interview!

Answering this question wrong can seriously ruin your whole job interview. If you lowball yourself you could either go to work with far less than you could have received or they might think you don’t value yourself and you’ll lose out on the job.

On the other hand, if you pick a number too high they might think they can’t afford you and let you go.

So researching salary ranges for your industry and going in prepared is key 📌

Hope you’re all enjoying your day. Tag a friend in the comments who could use this 💘 and remember to follow @careermattersng

The recruiter called saying you are invited to the next round of interviews. YAY! 🎉

And now what...?⠀

🕵️ Time for the detective in you to shine. 🕵️
Start researching! You'll want to look at:⠀

1️⃣ Company culture⠀
Explore the company's careers site and website to figure out if you really want to work with them.⠀

2️⃣ Company news⠀
Google is your friend here. Are there any news, company updates, financial information, industry information that you need to know?⠀

3️⃣ Social Accounts⠀
You will also want to look at their social accounts. What does the culture look like, how to they treat their employees, how do they respond to their customers? Also look at sites like Glassdoor and read employee reviews.⠀

4️⃣ Salary⠀
You need to be clear on your salary expectations. Do your research and figure out the average salary for the position for someone with your years of experience. If you are considering relocation, sites like Numbeo will also help with the cost of living.⠀

5️⃣ The interviewer⠀
You will want to start on LinkedIn and then expand your search. How long have they been with the company, what questions will they possibly ask, do you have anything in common, do you have any common connections?⠀
