Considered to be one of Indiaโ€™s oldest functioning temple, Virupaksha temple is still pristine amidst the ancient ruins.

#VirupakshaTemple is located in #Hampi in the #Ballari district of #Karnataka, India. It is part of the Group of #Monuments at Hampi, designated as a #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite. The temple is dedicated to #LordVirupaksha, a form of Shiva. The temple was built by Lakkan Dandesha, a nayaka (chieftain) under the ruler Deva Raya II also known as Prauda Deva Raya of the Vijayanagara Empire.
#TheShoreTemple is so named because it overlooks the shore of the #BayOfBengal.

The #DarjeelingHimalayanRailway, also known as the DHR or the #ToyTrain, is a 2 ft gauge railway that runs between New Jalpaiguri and #Darjeeling in the Indian state of West Bengal. Built between 1879 and 1881, it is about 88 km long.

On 2 December 1999, #UNESCO declared the DHR a #WorldHeritageSite.

Several films have depicted the railway. Protagonist Rajesh Khanna sings "Mere Sapno Ki Rani" to heroine Sharmila Tagore, who is on the train, in the 1969 film Aradhana. Other films which include the railway are Barfi!, Parineeta and Raju Ban Gaya Gentleman.

The most prominent sculpture in the cave is that of the Hindu god Vishnu in the incarnated form of a Varaha or boar lifting Bhudevi, the mother earth goddess from the sea. #GaneshaRatha is a temple in #Kancheepuram district, #TamilNadu, India. It is one of ten rathas ("chariots") carved out of pink granite within the group of monuments of the Pallava Period at #Mahabalipuram, a #UNESCO-inscribed #WorldHeritageSite since 1984. The ratha is an example of monolith Indian rock-cut architecture dating from the late seventh century during the reign of King Mahendravarman I and his son Narasimhavarman I. Initially constructed with a Shiva Linga, it is now deified with a Ganesha deity after the linga was removed.

#VirupakshaTemple is located in #Hampi 350 km from #Bangalore in the state of Karnataka in #SouthernIndia. It is part of the Group of Monuments at Hampi designated a #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite. The temple is dedicated to #Virupaksha a form of Shiva. The #temple was built by Lakkana Dandesha a chieftain under the ruler Deva Raya of the Vijayanagara Empire.

The temples history is uninterrupted from about the 7th century. The Virupaksha Pampa sanctuary existed well before the Vijayanagara capital was located here. Inscriptions referring to #LordShiva date back to the 9th and 10th centuries. What started as a small shrine grew into a large complex under the Vijayanagara rulers.
#Kumbhalgarh Fort in #Rajasthan.
The mighty fort is 3600 ft tall and 38km long that surrounds the area of Udaipur. It was considered to have been built by Rana Kumbha in the 15th century. The fort is further declared a #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite that is under the group #HillForts of Rajasthan. It is located strategically on the western Aravalli hills.

Having witnessed a large number of wars, the hill serves as the boundary that is unbreakable. The fort that has seven fortified gateways and a number of Jain temples within it , along with the Lakhola Tank which is the most famous tank inside the fort that was constructed by Rana Lakha. The fort consists of a number of Hindu temples and Jain temples that indicate the religious tolerance of the rulers and how they patronized the Jains and encouraged their culture in the kingdom.
#Gangaikondacholapuram in #Ariyalur, #TamilNadu is surrounded by lush green landscapes and has craftly designed sculptures. It is also a #UNESCO #WorldHeritageSite grouped under the Great Living Chola Temples. The templeโ€™s architecture and bronze sculptures are a site to behold.
