Report on RBI capital finalised
The Bimal Jalan committee, constituted to assess the optimum size of capital reserves that the RBI should hold, on 17 July 2019 finalised its report. The six-member panel, under former RBI Governor Jalan was appointed on December 26, 2018, to review the economic capital framework (ECF) for the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) after the finance ministry wanted the central bank to follow global best practices and transfer more surplus to the government.

New veterinary health protocol
Australia and India recently finalised a new veterinary health protocol for the export of Australian breeder sheep to India, the Australian High Commission, New Delhi informed. Australia and India have built the foundations of its agriculture relationship over decades, with cooperation on wheat and wool stemming back to the 1960s.

Arjuna Award 2019
Cricketer Smriti Mandhana and tennis star Rohan Bopanna were conferred with the Arjuna Awards by Union Sports minister Kiren Rijiju at a ceremony held in New Delhi. Team India opener Mandhana had missed out on the award last year due to international commitments.

Apollo 11 astronaut returns
Apollo 11 astronaut Michael Collins returned on 16 July 2019 to the exact spot where he flew to the moon 50 years ago with Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin. Collins had the spotlight to himself this time — Armstrong has been gone for seven years and Aldrin canceled. Collins said he wished his two moonwalking colleagues could have shared the moment at Kennedy Space Center’s Launch Complex 39A, the departure point for humanity’s first moon landing.

India’s Largest Rural Sanitation Survey
Jal Shakti Minister Shri Gajendra Singh Shekhawat launched the Swachh Survekshan Grameen 2019 (SSG 2019) in Delhi on 15 August 2019. To be instituted from August 14 to September 30, 2019, SSG 2019 will cover 17,450 villages in 698 districts across India and include 87,250 public places namely schools, anganwadi centers, public health centres, haat/bazaars/religious places, making it India’s largest rural sanitation survey.

Recommendations of Jalan Committee accepted
The RBI board accepted the recommendations of the Bimal Jalan committee and has decided to transfer Rs 1,76,051 crore to the government. This is broken as Rs 1,23,414 crore as surplus for year 2018-19 and another Rs 52,637 crore of excess provisions identified by the committee as per the revised Economic Capital Framework (ECF).

Humanoid robot docks with ISS
A Russian Soyuz spacecraft carrying a humanoid robot docked with the International Space Station (ISS) on 27 August 2019. The FEDOR (Final Experimental Demonstration Object Research) robot is on a planned mission to support the crew and test its skills. It will stay on the station until Sept. 7.

Multiple craters on Moon
Isro released the lunar surface images captured by the Terrain Mapping Camera 2 (TMC-2) on August 23 from an altitude of 4,375km. One set of images show impact craters such as Jackson, Mitra, Mach and Korolev.
