👋Come meet our Touchless Push Buttons that use *microwave-based* sensors to activate the Green Man at 4️⃣ of our pedestrian crossings! 🚦

🚶‍♀🏫 Located at crossings with high pedestrian traffic throughout the day (i.e. near key amenities like schools), these new microwave-based pedestrian sensors will be progressively rolled out and trialled for the next six months.

Check out the last frame to find out their locations and just wave your hands over the sensors to activate the Green Man! 👋

#DidYouKnow We also trialled infrared sensors to activate the Green Man at another 4️⃣ of our pedestrian crossings last year. We’ll be assessing the performance of these two types of sensors before finalising future plans. #StayTuned
Kudos to all winners of this year’s Public Transport Safety and Security Awards (#PTSSA) for their efforts in ensuring safety and security across our PT network! 🥳🎉

#DidYouKnow The PTSSA comprises two categories:

1️⃣ The Operator category which recognises rail, bus and Point-to-Point operators for their commitment to safety for both employees and commuters alike. 🚇🚌🚕

2️⃣ The Public Transport Worker category which recognises the workers for preventing potential safety and security incidents through their timely actions and efforts to enhance operational safety at their workplaces. 🛡

With millions of PT journeys daily, it’s vital that our PT workers remain vigilant against potential threats to ensure commuters like you and I continue to enjoy safe and reliable rides.

#ThankYou 🙌 to all award winners once again and learn more about their contributions at ➡️ go.gov.sg/ptssa-2023

Hooray, we’ve just completed the first phase of the Singapore Rail Test Centre (#SRTC). Construction of the high speed test track in this facility is now completed and the track is ready for operation! 🙌🥳

Slated for completion in 2025, the SRTC is the first train testing facility in Southeast Asia and will be a comprehensive testing platform for multiple railway systems before they are deployed on the main line. 🚆⚙️ This will facilitate round-the-clock testing and free up limited engineering hours on operational lines for maintenance and renewal works – which is aimed at strengthening the reliability of our rail network! 🔧

#DidYouKnow We’ve begun testing and commissioning works for the first 2 Circle Line 6 (#CCL6) trains 🧡 at the facility. The SRTC is also designed and operated with sustainability in mind e.g. energy-saving equipment, solar panels, and a hybrid cooling system. #MyGoGreenFlags 💚
#DidYouKnow With the construction of the #TEL extension, a 1km stretch of the rail viaduct at Tanah Merah MRT station will be decommissioned in 2026. 🚆

As part of our sustainability efforts 🌱🌎, we’re looking to repurpose the viaduct area and a section of the #Changi Depot Building to:

Create a vibrant public space for various community and/or recreational uses 😍; and

Reduce demolition waste 🏗 at the same time!

Share your ideas on how the #TanahMerah MRT viaduct can be transformed into new community spaces at ➡️ go.gov.sg/viaduct.

Submissions close on 31 Dec 2023.
#DidYouKnow From 2025, we’ll be able to carry out train testing all day, everyday right on our shores! 🤩 🔧⚙️🚆

#ICYMI - We will be starting construction works for the first of five #FriendlyStreets pilot locations! 🎉 This will make daily commutes in our ‘hoods more convenient, safer, and inclusive for everyone - especially for families with children, seniors, and those with mobility needs.

Each neighbourhood will have features co-created with the community, catering to the unique needs of each town. Such features include:

☀️ More barrier-free crossings to improve accessibility;
☀️ Longer crossing times at signalised junctions; and
☀️ Traffic-calming measures e.g. road humps or narrowing road lanes to slow motorists down.

#DidYouKnow By 2030, there’ll be a Friendly Street in every town ? Be sure to look out for these cheerful designs and vibrant colours in your Friendly Street! ☀️😎💖

#DidYouKnow – there’ll be a Friendly Street in every town by 2030? 🤔

#FriendlyStreets will enable everyone to commute more conveniently and safely in their ‘hoods, especially for families with children, seniors, and those with mobility needs. 👧🏻👵🏼👩🏽‍🦽

With more pedestrian-friendly features that make walking or cycling easier to get to key amenities, you can look forward to wider and more barrier-free crossings as well as shorter waiting time at signalised pedestrian crossings.

Best part? These features will be tailored to residents’ needs so that you’ll have a more delightful commute in your ‘hood! ☀️😎💖

#DidYouKnow that we’ve been adopting more sustainable methods 💚 in the construction 🏗️ of our transport infrastructure?

The site for Changi East Depot which will house our Cross Island Line trains 🚄 used to be a disposal area for sludge, a by-product of wastewater treatment.

With advancements in technology🔬, we can treat the sludge to turn it into artificial soil which will be used as backfill material in the construction of the depot. This helps to reduce the overall volume of waste and materials required, promoting a circular economy approach ♻️ where waste materials are utilised as resources rather than discarded. 🌱 #MyGoGreenFlags

#PSA We’re happy to update that the integration of the Circle Line (#CCL) with our existing rail network will be completed more than a month ahead of schedule! Thanks to the early completion, train services on the CCL will resume normal operations from this Sat, 6 Apr 2024. 🥳

#DidYouKnow that these works were initially expected to conclude in May? Thanks to the collective efforts by our engineers and operator to streamline and optimise work processes based on site conditions, as well as the additional resources put in by our contractors to support 24/7 operations, we could complete the track works in 77 days instead of 126 as originally planned. 🛠️🗓️ This has allowed us to go back to business as usual and reduce the inconvenience to commuters.

A big #ThankYou to all commuters for your patience as we continue to work hard to improve everyone’s rail journeys. 🚇🧡

We've just completed our 40th #SilverZone at Choa Chu Kang Crescent! 🎉

Silver Zones incorporate features such as Y-junctions and road humps to encourage motorists to slow down, making it safer for all pedestrians, especially the elderly 👴🏼👵🏼. With other features such as kerbless crossings and widened centre dividers, it is also easier for our seniors to cross the roads! 🚶🏼‍♀️

#DidYouKnow that the no. of road accidents involving senior pedestrians has dropped by ~80% in areas where Silver Zones have been implemented? Stay tuned for more Silver Zones coming up, with our planned total of 50 by 2025. 💪🏼🤍
Look out for stunning new art that will be coming to Bencoolen and Botanic Gardens MRT stations in the upcoming months! 😍

#DidYouKnow These are the winning artworks designed by Nanyang Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA) students in a competition to enliven public transport spaces for our commuters. 🎨🖌
