केंद्रीय विज्ञान एवं प्रौद्योगिकी मंत्री डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने ‘’डीएनए प्रौद्योगिकी (उपयोग एवं अनुप्रयोग) विनियमन विधेयक–2019’’ लोकसभा में पेश किया। विधेयक प्रस्‍तुत करते हुए डॉ. हर्षवर्धन ने कहा कि यह विधेयक गुमशुदा व्‍यक्तियों, पीडि़तों, दोषियों, विचाराधीन कैदियों और अज्ञात मृत व्‍यक्तियों की पहचान के लिए ’डीएनए प्रौद्योगिकी के उपयोग एवं अनुप्रयोग के विनियमन से संबंधित है।

2020 में देश के पहले विमान वाहक पोत का बेसिन ट्रायल
भारत में बन रहे स्वदेशी विमानवाहक पोत के निर्माण का कार्य तेजी से चल रहा है और मार्च 2020 तक यह बेसिन ट्रायल (कम गहरे पानी में परीक्षण) के लिए पानी में उतारा जा सकता है। इसके बाद पोत का सी ट्रायल (समुद्र के गहरे पानी में परीक्षण) होगा। इस पहले स्वदेशी विमानवाहक पोत का नाम आइएनएस विक्रांत होगा।

Two galaxies colliding
NASA and European Space Agency’s (ESA) Hubble Space Telescope has just captured images of two luminescent galaxies catalogued as UGC 2369. The telescope was able to capture mutual gravitational attraction between both the galaxies. Interaction between galaxies is not an uncommon event, however, two similarly sized ones merging is one of a kind.

India hands over missile corvette INS Kirpan

India on 22 July 2023 "gifted" its in-service missile corvette INS Kirpan to Vietnam in reflection of growing strategic partnership between the two sides, especially in the maritime domain. It is for the first time that India gifted a fully operational corvette to any friendly foreign country.

The Indian Navy said the ship has been handed over to Vietnam People's Navy (VPN) with complete "weapon complement".
On completing 32 years of illustrious service to the nation, Indian naval ship Kirpan has been decommissioned from the Indian Navy and handed over to VPN.
INS Kirpan, since its commissioning in 1991, has been an integral part of Indian Navy's Eastern Fleet and has participated in many operations over the last 32 years.
Manned by about 12 officers and 100 sailors, the ship is 90 metres long and 10.45 metres in width with maximum displacement of 1,450 tons.
The transfer of INS Kirpan from Indian Navy to Vietnam People's Navy symbolises the status of Indian Navy of being the 'preferred security partner in the Indian Ocean Region.
INS Kirpan, an indigenously built Khukri-class missile corvette, was handed over to Vietnam in line with Defence Minister Rajnath Singh's announcement last month that India will gift an in-service missile corvette to the country.

Naval wargame Exercise Malabar concludes
The 27th edition of Exercise Malabar concluded on the east coast of Australia, off Sydney. The four-nation exercise witnessed the participation of ships, submarines, and aircraft from the Indian Navy, Royal Australian Navy (RAN), Japan Maritime Self Defence Force (JMSDF), and the US Navy (USN).

The exercise was conducted in two phases – a harbour (or planning) phase from 11 to 15 August, and a sea phase from 16 – 21 August, which saw the four navies actually implementing the plans that they had made.
The Indian Navy was represented by the indigenously built guided missile destroyer, INS Kolkata, the multi-role stealth frigate INS Sahyadri, and P-8I Poseidon maritime patrol aircraft.
There was a strong aircraft presence, including fighter aircraft, maritime patrol aircraft and shipborne helicopters.
The sea phase of Exercise Malabar witnessed complex and high intensity exercises in air, surface and undersea domains, weapon firings and cross deck helicopter operations.
The joint exercises at sea honed the war-fighting skills and enhanced interoperability between the four navies to undertake advanced maritime operations.
The seamless integration of air assets also showcased the exceptional coordination and interoperability between the Indian, Australian, and US maritime patrol aircraft units.
Exercise Malabar reaffirmed the ability of the four navies to operate together as an integrated force, while also highlighting their shared commitment to maritime security and regional stability through collaborative training and mutual understanding.

At the culmination of five days of multifarious exercises, Exercise Malabar vividly showcased the strong cooperation, shared values, and the collective ability of the four participating nations to ensure a free, open and inclusive Indo-Pacific, promoting peace and security for all.
China has made it clear to the four participating countries that it sees Malabar as an inimical military grouping.
After Malabar 2007, China conveyed its displeasure in writing, seeking to know whom the exercise was directed against. Since then, the number of participating navies has doubled from two to four.
