On May 12, 2025, a Myanmar military fighter jet dropped a bomb on a school in Oe-Htein-Kwin, Tabayin Township, during a declared ceasefire. This airstrike resulted in the deaths of over 20 students and 2 teachers, with more than 40 others injured. The school was operational amidst a devastating earthquake, and there were no armed clashes in the area.
This tragic event is part of a broader pattern of deliberate attacks on civilians, including children, by the junta since the 2021 coup. Approximately 4,985 airstrikes have been conducted across Myanmar, resulting in over 4,627 civilian deaths, including 775 children.
