Meet and Greet Our Core Team Member: Highlighting Biruk Mesfin

Today, we're excited to introduce Biruk Mesfin, an essential member of our GDSC AASTU community who has made significant contributions as both a content manager and graphics designer. Biruk has been key in enhancing our community’s visual presence by creating eye-catching designs that resonate with our audience. His creativity and attention to detail not only enriched our branding but also helped triple our subscriber count, boosting our social media reach and engagement. In addition to his design work, Biruk served as our backstage manager for many events, including the AASTU TECH FEST. He played a vital role in ensuring everything ran smoothly by overseeing technical aspects.

Beyond his contributions to GDSC AASTU, Biruk has a rich professional background. He is currently the Lead Web Developer at Spark Tank, where he focuses on connecting investors with entrepreneurs through innovative technology. As the Founder of Innovate Fusion, he led a team that achieved remarkable success in the A2SV Generative AI For Africa Hackathon, winning the Best Technical Implementation Award for their project, The Architect, which showcased groundbreaking ideas in generative AI.

Biruk also serves as the Co-Founder and Public Relations Lead of the AASTU Software Engineering Association, where he works to strengthen the community of aspiring software engineers. His experience as a Front-End Developer Intern at Eskalate and as a Software Engineering Intern at Headstarter further demonstrates his technical skills and commitment to professional growth. He also worked as a Product Manager Intern at A2SV | Africa to Silicon Valley, where he actively participates in product development processes.

As Biruk continues to innovate and inspire, we are excited to see how he will further contribute to the tech community and empower those around him as the incoming GDSC AASTU Lead for this year. His journey exemplifies dedication and passion for technology, design, and collaboration, making him a valuable asset to GDSC AASTU and beyond. We look forward to witnessing his future achievements and the positive impact he will create.

Meet and Greet Our Core Team Member: Highlighting Doi Amdissa

Today, we are excited to introduce Doi Amdissa, the final core team member in our series. Doi was an extended member of the content team, where she worked as a graphics designer, contributing her creative expertise to help the content team create stunning visuals. Her designs have played an important role in elevating the quality and appeal of GDSC AASTU’s content.

Beyond her work with GDSC AASTU , Doi brings a wealth of experience from other roles, including her current positions as a Content Creator and UI/UX Trainee at A2SV | Africa to Silicon Valley, where she hones her design skills using tools like Figma. She is also a Competitive Programming Trainee, working to master Python, data structures, and algorithms. In addition, Doi has mentored others as a Content Creator Mentor at SheCodes AASTU, and her dedication to creating and teaching has been invaluable to our community.

Reflecting on her experience with GDSC AASTU, Doi shared:

"✨My involvement with Google Developer Student Clubs (GDSC) began at the university's welcome ceremony.🤗 Hearing about the organization sparked my interest, particularly as a graphic designer seeking a creative🎨 outlet within the tech sphere."

He explored how supervised machine learning can handle the morphological complexities of Amharic and worked on Optical Character Recognition (OCR) for Amharic manuscripts, advancing the field of computational linguistics.

Dr. Wondwossen also served as a Board Director at Zemen Bank, where he plays a key role in IT security, audit, and strategic direction for the bank’s technological innovations.
