π MY EDUCATION STORY - 4/4
In Switzerland, I didn't only study either. There were so many events by the corporate partners and student organisations that I could literally go out every single day! For example, Goldman Sachs (one of the most well-known investment bank in the world) ran a cool meetup for girls only where they invited a confectionary chef who taught us to cook sweets from the Swiss chocolate. Each of us brought home a box of hand-made sweets and we had an opportunity to chat with the bank's representatives over an apΓ©ro (a serving of food and drinks) ππ«
I got to travel as well - we went to Milano, Germany and I drove around Switzerland, admiring the beautiful architecture, waterfalls, historical castles and small cozy cities - the scenery that is so much unlike the typical one I had been used to at home.
The business-school degree opens doors to many events specifically tailored for business students. For example, I was one of the lucky 4% of applicants who got to participate in the Corporate Finance Unlimited workshop that is conducted annually by BCG in a stunning historical chatΓͺau near Paris. On the course of 3 days, we were solving a real-life business case for a company, eating delicious French food and networking with other European students of top business schools.
Would I recommend such a lifestyle? Definitely! π₯Applying for a Master's degree was one of the best decisions in my life. However, it can be really challenging to find enough money for such a life-changing experience. Yes, living abroad is expensive. And not all countries provide free options like Germany, for example.
The financial problem is not the only obstacle though. Young people are afraid of choosing a weak university. They don't know where and how to start searching for a scholarship. This really disturbs me because I am sure that every single one of us deserves the best education ever.
Therefore, I've come up with a new WSE service - the Scholarship search! Me and my team will be glad to help you with this challenging task. Just submit a request here and we'll be in touch to specify your profile details and start looking for the most suitable funding for you βΊοΈπͺπ»

π 5 PRODUCTIVITY TIPS
Being productive is trendy. Of course, it's not possible to jump over my head and sometimes I just reschedule my plans and there are some to-dos that are hanging for days until I finally finish them. But here are 5 of my tips to stay on top of your own goals:
β
π In the morning, I make a comprehensive to-do list for the day. I do it by hand (only!) in my notebook because it's much more effective than using any app for me. Every single app that I've tried eventually failed miserably.
β
π I remove all distractors from my desk. How often do you start working, but somehow end up on Twitter? So now I switch my phone to the silent mode or even put it away and start working.
β
π In case of emergency, I use the Pomodoro technique - it breaks the workload into intervals of 25 mins, separated by short breaks. There are many apps that help you track the time like that. It really helps to stay focus, so highly recommended!
β
π― I prepare my workspace: clean the desk, find necessary papers, put a glass of water nearby, and wear comfortable work clothes. Otherwise, the work is less fruitful and I get distracted every minute to go drink some water or get snacks.
β
π΄ Of course, there are "lazy" days when I'm too tired and stressed to work hard. I usually change the nature of work that I do. For example, instead of sitting in front of the computer, I do household duties. I don't feel guilty about wasting time and get a clean flat as a bonus.
β
These are my main productivity tips. I believe that you canβt become more productive overnight. But making small changes and adopting some of these habits, youβll be well on your way to becoming more efficient. Do you have any productivity secrets of yours? π± BIG NEWS
So, you must know that I run the Rocket Speed IELTS Preparation course - this is a comprehensive intensive online course with lots of theory and practice. We start the new batch this Monday (tomorrow, August 3). The course comprises all the knowledge that allowed me to score 8.0 at the first attempt on IELTS Academic. There are 4 IELTS modules covered, plus you get to expand your advanced vocabulary and most importantly - receive my real-time guidance (I check all homeworks, give feedback and answer any questions you might have).
π₯ So, I have kept the prices for the course very low for the last year - you can literally buy 1 month of comprehensive guided IELTS preparation for 40 USD! However, I don't think that this is the justified price for the huge amount of work, time and effort I put in it. You have maybe seen that other IELTS courses on the market start from 200 USD on average!
Therefore, I've decided to upgrade the course, modify and improve its content to relaunch it for an increased price in 1-2 months. You will be able to buy it for 150 USD and above, after the improvements that I'll make to it.
π Hence, now (today and tomorrow) are literally the last days ever when you can still buy by Rocket Speed IELTS Preparation course for the old prices - 40 or 60 USD! All the details about the packages, fees and FAQ you will find here.
There won't be such a possibility anymore. Ever. Are you sure you want to lose it? I hope you don't.
You can ask me any questions about the course, as always @d_sandmartin
I spend a lot of time to help every single person on the course boost their IELTS scores. Hopefully, I will help you as well! β€οΈ

βββοΈ WSE HERO - JULY 2020
I want to celebrate people who have been World Speaks English members for a long time, have contributed to its development, participated in live streams, courses, and our discussions in the community chats. All of them - WSE Heroes - have a unique story to tell.
ββββ
Meet Monday Kennedy from Port Harcourt, Nigeria.
He has longed to sit for the IELTS test since his university graduation, in order to continue the educational path overseas. Around March 2020 he got a call from the test centre that he had booked to take the test at on April 18th. Prior to that date he had not been preparing in any way, so he had barely 3 weeks to learn all the IELTS-required skills and try to successfully sit the test.
He began searching for any credible materials whatsoever to rely on and start the preparation. When looking for information about IELTS online, he saw a video on YouTube from me - being impressed by the quality and educational value he followed the WSE Community on Telegram and tried to implement all recommendations about IELTS π
When it was just a week left until the test, it was cancelled because of the COVID-19 pandemic. So, Monday continued his preparation and rescheduled the test to June, 27. With the support from the WSE Community and the materials shared on the Telegram channel, he was able to perform very well at the test and got band score 7.0 overall for the IELTS Academic! ππ»
ββββ
Congratulations for becoming the WSE Hero of the month, Monday! We love celebrating outstanding community members π

π WHY ENGLISH IS GLOBAL?
Being non-native speakers we all learn English for one of the following: getting a degree, advancing in a career, or maybe for personal reasons. These days it seems like English is used everywhere and itβs for sure becoming the worldβs most widely spoken language. But why? How did it become so important and widespread? Letβs cut to the chase and unravel this mystery together.
πΉ Colonization.
Back in the day before British Empire conquered nearly a quarter of the planet, Britons had been the only ones speaking English. But naturally settling around the globe, English quickly spread and became the language of educated people and later - the business language ππΌ
πΉ Post-war shift.
After the first two world wars American businesses were booming and so worldwide trading started. American culture was being exported heavily through music and film. This bolstered the use of English to be more than just the language of business, but also the language of entertainment for the masses. And letβs not forget about the 60βs and the hippie movement. Which brings us to the next point ππΌ
πΉ The coolness factor.
English is used across the world to represent a certain lifestyle or culture, success or entertainment. It is the most common language used in films, music and sports. Nowadays people of any occupation tend to produce their work in English in order to become popular or famous. Maybe itβs because English will reach a wider audience, or maybe because it is taken more seriously, like in the hi-tech world ππΌ
πΉ Technology.
The Internet was invented in the US, so was the entire lexicon for computers. The technology spread like fire to the corners of the Earth, and the language followed. The world of science as well is dominated by English: historically, universities publishing important research were doing so in English, and for scientists today, any serious publication must be done in English ππΌ
πΉ The snowball effect.
Now here is why English is so widespread across the Internet, on the radio and TV, in schools and in the business world - it is really hard to escape! With science and technology playing such a big role in our lives today, English wonβt be going anywhere soon. Are you prepared for that?
