А початок був покладений, занурення в матеріал почалося… До того ж, я працювала над каталогом музейного зібрання скульптури, який планувалося видати цього року. На фоні розмов про «адін народ», «что вы апять разделяєтє славян?», «вєлікая русская культура», що постійно лунають з-за порєбріка, я зрозуміла, що «повернення імен» народжених в Україні митців, які привласнила рф, до орбіти української культури саме зараз і треба продовжувати. Я пройшлася по нашому каталогу скульптури та по іменам улюблених фарфористів, склала список. Поки є інтернет та ноут, я роблю матеріали в соцмережі. Марія Холодна, Наталія Максимченко, Галина Чечуліна… і так далі. Відчуваю, це має стати підґрунтям проєкту, метою якого буде осмислення проблеми міграції художників, дуже щільно пов’язаної з трагічною багатовіковою історією нашої країни".

У ніч проти 7 березня зазнала бомбардувань харківська культурна Мекка – вулиця Культури, призначена для представників творчих спеціальностей (митців, акторів, письменників).
Як наслідок, було пошкоджено відомий Будинок "Слово", внесений до Державного реєстру нерухомих пам'яток України. У побудованому наприкінці 1920-х років кооперативом літераторів будинку свого часу мешкали діячі Розстріляного Відродження: Володимир Сосюра, Микола Куліш, Павло Тичина, Іван Багряний, Олесь Досвітній, Майк Йогансен та інші.
Зазнав втрат і розташований поруч із ним Будинок художників (побудований у 1950-х роках). On the night of March 7, Kharkiv's cultural Mecca, the Street of Culture, intended for representatives of creative specialties (artists, actors, writers), was bombed. The adjacent House of Artists (built in the 1950s) suffered losses as well. The blast damaged windows in art studios, which preserve works of contemporary artists, as well as paintings of previous generations, including such famous artists as: People's Artist G. Tomenko, People's Artist A. Konstantynopolskyi, People's Artist L. Chernov, People's Artist O. Khmelnytsky, Honored Art Worker E. Yegorov, Honored Art Worker J. Karas and others.

💙💛Cultural figures who continue to work in the war zone
Olia Fedorova is a multidisciplinary conceptual artist, working with photography, video, installation and text. Based in Kharkiv, Ukraine. Her practice is focused on the exploration and interaction with environments as semantic spaces.
The war caught Olia in Kharkiv and the artist decided to stay in the city, which is exposed to devastating shelling and missile strikes, to fight on the information and cultural front: to convey to the international audience the Ukrainian point of view on the war and share opportunities to help Ukrainians. “From the first day I started covering our life in the bomb shelter on my social networks, and suddenly got a great feedback. Thanks to my acquaintances in art circles around the world, famous media from Great Britain, USA, Canada, Poland and other countries began to contact me,” says Olia.
In order to stay relatively safe, Olia had to move to the basement: “On the first day of the full-scale Russian invasion, we set up a basement in our house as a bomb shelter. There is electricity here, so we connected heaters and lighting. We brought blankets, sleeping pads and mattresses, and made something like furniture using junk. The first few days we were in the basement nearly around the clock, going upstairs just to use the bathroom. On the fourth day, we prepared Molotov cocktails and built fortifications all over our house, because the Russians broke into Kharkiv and there was a risk that they would hide in civilian buildings, so we were preparing to meet them."
Olia does not intend to leave the city at the moment. "I dream of staying in Kharkiv until the very victory. Then, together with my family and friends, we will start rebuilding our beautiful city," she said.

Artists in the war zone
Oleksandr Bondarenko is a Mariupol painter, who works in the field of geometric abstraction. Member of the National Union of Artists of Ukraine (since 1988), one of the members of the Mariupol creative association "Harbarbond", participant of Ukrainian and international exhibitions.
According to the artist, the war started so unexpectedly for him that he did not even have time to orient himself and understand what would be waiting for him. At first it was difficult purely psychologically: he read all the news for a day and could not believe it, everything seemed unreal. After March 2nd, the city was cut off the power, mobile communication and heating disappeared. There were frosts. In a few days the water supply stopped, and then the gas did. People were rescued by a nearby spring and a fire in the yard. 2 weeks have passed this way.
Oleksandr Bondarenko says: “Once we noticed that cars were marching in columns towards the exit from the city and did not return. Since we don't have a vehicle, my pregnant daughter and I went on the road and hitchhiked. We were very lucky, and Andriy picked us up from the village of Yalta, he took us to Berdyansk by his minibus. There we found out that there are Red Cross buses to Zaporizhia and we managed to get on one of them.
Then there was a difficult road to Zaporizhia in a column of more than 15 buses and cars, the journey took almost 12 hours. On our way, Russian troops fired at the cars of peaceful refugees, we miraculously did not come under fire. The next day we moved from Zaporizhia to Dnipro and were already relatively safe. There I was able to connect with the friends and colleagues who left the completely destroyed city. There is still no connection with those who did not leave Mariupol.
My studio apartment is on the 9th, top floor, of course, I could not work, although just a few days before the war, everything was ready (subframes, canvases, paints, sketches) for the implementation of my new project. When we stayed in Zaporizhia, friends sent me a photo of my apartment.The same day I left Mariupol, a missile flew into the roof of my studio apartment, pierced the roof, but did not explode and is still in my kitchen, otherwise there would be a fire and all my works for 50 years of creative activity would burn.
I would like to show some photos of my studio-apartment that was damaged by the shelling, as well as sketches of my new art project, which I still do not give up hope to implement here in Dnipro.

“5:30, 24 лютого – це нова точка відліку, коли ти вже не знаєш, який сьогодні день, коли вся твоя постійна рутина зникає і ти лише відраховуєш час, спираєшся на віру у світле майбутнє.
Все як дурний сон, ще й досі є бажання прокинутись і знов повернутись до нормального життя. Найважче рішення – розділитись з родиною. Я ніколи не розлучався з донькою більше, ніж на 10 днів, а тепер вже понад три тижні я не можу обійняти її і поцілувати перед сном. Але знаю, що вона в безпеці, зараз так правильно.
Наразі я живу у дуже скромних умовах. Як то кажуть, ми повернулись з 21 сторіччя до середини 20, коли треба піч розпалити і воду носити, коли на забезпечення побуту йде більша частина твого дня. Творчості немає – наче щось всередині зламалось, постійно намагаюсь спрямувати свої емоції в створення нових робіт, але, мабуть, ще не час їм з’явитися.
Може, трошки згодом я створю цикл, присвячений цим подіям, але це буде згодом. Зараз сили є лише на волонтерство, хакерські атаки сайтів і підтримку для моєї робочої команди, яка зараз в різних українських містах та інших країнах. Але я вірю, що скоро ми всі повернемось до тих справ, які нас роблять саме тими, хто ми є”.

Therapeutic Power of Art in The War
"Good evening, we are from Ukraine ... Maybe it is a cliché, but I have the right to say hello in this way!!! - says Yevhenii Shcherbyna, who considers himself as a freelance artist. - I am a soldier in peacetime and wartime ... 😉
Since childhood, I like to draw, write poetry, create books and sketchbooks, play and write music as much as my intellect allows. I drew the first sticker on a smartphone in 2018, and it based on Yuri Morozov`s works, namely the universe "World of Nazai". Nowadays it is very difficult for me to draw, but I keep drawing because it is the only thing that can relieve me of stress and anxiety, even under the sounds of explosions. Knowing, that my children are far from the epicenter of hostilities, I am more or less relaxed in my statements and actions, because the only thing that worries me now is the peaceful sky over the heads of my relatives."
Yevhenii considers the question of the role of Russian culture in the Russian-Ukrainian war inappropriate: "Once I visited the Hermitage. There are collected works of various artists there, who, in my opinion, had no idea that the "brotherly" people could attack a peaceful country that just wanted to live and be free ..."
Yevhenii tells us: "In order to preserve our culture, we should read and remember the words of our artists, who warned us previously in their works that these people are not like us: they have no humanity, and they do not understand how it is possible to live peacefully and have prosperity and harmony in the house, because they only see destruction, garbage and poverty. We need to inform the world that in our country there are the most talented artists, who create masterpieces of literature, painting, sculpture, etc., and the «bright heads» of our scientists give the world unique discoveries.
Once, probably a long time ago, in 2004, a woman told me that one day Ukraine would become famous all over the world, but I didn`t think it would happen this way. We were able to endure the first days of the bombing, which was supposed to demoralize our people, but it did unite them instead. We have become like a stone, like one unshakable wall against slavery and bondage. Of course, we were ready for the war, because we have been fighting for 8 years (comment of someone who experienced it personally). After the victory we will take leading positions in all spheres of art, literature and sports, because after this experience our people will create, pouring their emotions and losses in poetry, drawings and songs, revealing their own soul, suffering and thoughts. Since the whole civilized world is contemplating Ukraine and Ukrainian people, who are creating, fighting for freedom, truth, for themselves ... "

Dmytro Buryan is a Ukrainian graphic artist and sculptor from Cherkasy. Dmytro has sought to serve since the first day of Russia's full-scale invasion to Ukraine, and is now defending the state on its southern borders. He is the only artist in his department, but he is not able to engage in creativity during the service, only sometimes he has the opportunity to do a simple sketch of a machine gun or a tank from memory. He says that the best support for artists at the front is moral, because artists are "very emotional people".
Dmytro tells us his story: „In 2014, when Russia occupied Crimea and partly Donbas, I had a huge resentment because very few artists sympathized with our country by their art. These acts of Russian aggression... When only a dozen artists, who are acquaintances of mine, opened up about this topic, it was a real pain. However, now I see the depiction spreading en masse. 💙💛Меморіальна стела Василю Сліпаку
Можна знищити скільки завгодно пам'ятників, та не стерти з пам'яті українського народу імена справжніх Героїв, які поклали своє життя за волю України. Пам'ятники відбудуються, постануть ще кращі, ще промовистіші.
7 березня 2022 окупаційними військами знищено меморіальну стелу Герою України, всесвітньо відомому українському оперному співакові Василеві Сліпаку, яку було встановлено поблизу смт. Луганське Донецької області. Стела буде відновлена, а слава і честь героїчного захисника Вітчизни навіки вкарбується в пам'яті наступних поколінь.

- Якою ти бачиш культуру України після Перемоги?
Вважаю що вона буде дуже актуальною у світі. Україна стала новим символом боротьби за демократичні цінності та свободу. Впродовж історії свобода завжди була для нашого народу його основою. І сьогодні цей «бій Давида та Голіафа» є радше боротьбою цивілізаційної культури та дикунства.
Гадаю, що після Перемоги культурне середовище буде конкурентним і поліфонічним. Воно приречене на розвиток, адже маємо величезний потенціал.
- В якому напрямку розвиватиметься сучасне українське мистецтво/література/театр тощо?
Думаю, що розвиватиметься у напрямку свободи. Адже, коли нація сплачує неймовірну ціну за цю свободу, то це не може не відобразитися в мистецтві. Сміливість і спроможність виходити за рамки робить його цікавим.
Гадаю, що воно досягне нових рівнів самоусвідомлення і просунеться в бік подальшої інтеграції в глобальні мистецькі процеси та взаємодію.
- Що можуть сьогодні та після Перемоги робити діячі культури та мистецтва на культурно-мистецькому та інформаційному фронтах?
Кожна особиста дія чи жест, що наближає Україну до Перемоги, — важливі. Це може бути багато речей: створення робіт, продаж їх на іноземних майданчиках (зараз особливо актуальним є NFT), переказ коштів благодійним фондам, волонтерство, робота в соціальних мережах, піклування про своїх близьких. Гадаю, що кожен сам знає, що йому робити, і це робить. Перемога буде за нами, бо з нами — правда і Бог.
