Redemption theme
Dudley Simpson
Back in the world of Blake's 7, Dudley Simpson would adapt his Federation March for use in the season 2 episode Redemption. I've always loved it.

American black musician "Felix da Housecat" released an album in 1999 as Thee Maddkatt Courtship. I've always liked one particular song on that album, Soulmate, which I heard playing in a pub in Mortlake in 2005.

MK2A might be my favourite song by the Shamen, yet I'd never heard this version before! Much fun.

This is a 90s classic, and I have to admit it is very good. It's amazing how much distinctive sounds could "make" a song back then. This song is instantly recognisable by the various sounds that crop up in it. It also has tremendous atmosphere.

An unusually inventive ambient soundtrack, rather avant-garde, based on the Terminator films. I like this one - it keeps surprising you. (I've just read it uses bits from the soundtrack to a 2019 video game, Terminator: Resistance.)

Thirty years ago yesterday, Erasure released their I Say I Say I Say album.

The sound of this, their sixth album, perhaps epitomises what Vince and Andy had always been working towards. One notable thing is that Vince made every single sound from scratch, even the percussion sounds.

But what I also love about this album is the graphic design. As you can see, there is a consistent schema across the various releases, all built around a fantastical 3D landscape. The album shows the view at night. The three singles show the same view but in different seasons. The remix CDs show wireframe renders of the band's insignia. Finally, the EP shows the landscape but in a unique close-up.

This is something that really appeals to me - the design of a "whole" thing via its component parts, which are done consistently. This is exactly what I now do with @Millenniyule every year.
