Pre-Question - Would you launch your product knowing that 20-30% of the target audience you are targeting will not use the product?
The correct answer is no!
So, in that case, why work hard in adjusting your products to a minimum standard for accessibility (AA)? I was going to write a different post today but… I went out with my wife for a dinner party to celebrate life. We went to a restaurant called “Na Laga’at” (in English - BlackOut).
The restaurant is a unique restaurant and there are only 14 around the world. The guiding principle of the restaurant is that the entire restaurant is dark. But not just dark. Total darkness. No light at all. From the moment we entered, I didn't see my wife even though I knew she was next to me. The waiters are all blind. For one meal, you completely eliminate your sense of sight. Suddenly you can only begin to imagine what it's like to be blind. The waiters lead you to the table, teach you to understand where the knife is, where the fork is, and suddenly you have to figure out how to eat an entire meal. The meal was Full of insights that every development I led, every product I managed, whether it was due to budget or time constraints, I always met the minimum accessibility requirements (AA). With all the successes of my products, now I understand all my failures. I understand that I could make other people's lives much easier, richer and fuller if I only gave a few extra hours of development and two more planning hours. For CEO's, I could say a very simple thing - 20-30% of customers Don't even consider using your product. One can expect revenue growth with the right adjustments.
