🅾 The Farmer's Donkey
🅾 الاغ كشاورز
One day a farmer's donkey fell down into a well.
روزی الاغ یک کشاورز به درون چاه افتاد
The animal cried piteously for hours as the farmer tried to figure out what to do.
حیوان ساعتها سرو صدا کرد وقتی کشاورز سعی کرد فکری به حال ماجرا بکند.
Finally he decided the animal was old, and the well needed to be covered up anyway;
سرانجام تصمیم گرفت که الاغ پیر است و چاه به هر حال نیاز است که پوشانده شود( پر شود) .
it just wasn't worth it to retrieve the donkey.
الاغ ارزش بیرون آوردن از چاه را نداشت.
He invited all his neighbors to shovel dirt into the well.
از همه همسایگانش دعوت کرد تا با بیل خاک را داخل چاه بریزند.
At first, the donkey realized what was happening and cried horribly.
اول که الاغ این را فهمیدبطور وحشتناکی سرو صدا کرد
Then, to everyone's amazement, he quieted down. A few shovel loads later, the farmer finally looked down the well, and was astonished at what he saw.
اما بعد در تعجب همه ارام شد. بعد از این که چند بیل خاک ریخته شد کشاورز به درون چاه نگاه کرد و از چیزی که میدید متعجب شد.
With every shovel of dirt that hit his back, the donkey was doing something amazing. He would shake it off and take a step up.
با هر بیل خاکی به پشتش برخورد می کرد، الاغ کارحیرت اوری انجام می داد. خاک را می تکاند و یک قدم بالاتر می‌آمد.
As the farmer's neighbors continued to shovel dirt on top of the animal, he would shake it off and take a step up. Pretty soon, everyone was amazed as the donkey stepped up over the edge of the well and trotted off!
همین طور که همسایگان کشاورز به ریختن خاک بر روی حیوان ادامه می دادند. حیوان خاک را می تکاند و یک قدم بالاتر می امد. خیلی زود همه شگفت زده شدندوقتی که الاغ با لبه ی چاه گذاشت و بیرون امد

Mike was the smallest child in
school. Another boy, Joe,
always teased Mike.
مایک کوچکترین بچه در مدرسه بود. یک پسر دیگر، به نام جو، همیشه سر به سر او می‌گذاشت.
Joe had a large scar on his face
from fighting other children.
جو جای زخم بزرگی روی صورتش داشت که ناشی از دعواهایش با بقیه بچه‌ها بود.
One day, Joe offended Mike
when he made fun of Mike’s
valentine, Jane.
یک روز، وقتی جو معشوقه مایک، جِین، را مسخره کرد، مایک را عصبانی کرد.
Mike felt disgrace, but he
didn’t know how to make Joe
stop.
مایک احساس تحقیر کرد، ولی نمی‌دانست چطور جلوی جو را بگیرد.
That day, Mike walked home
down an alley.
آن روز، مایک پیاده به خانه‌اش که پایینِ یک کوچه بود رفت.
He found a bunch of wood
boards next to a pine tree.
او کنار یک درخت کاج یک مشت تخته‌های چوبی یافت.
He thought to himself, “I could
build a decent sled from this. If
I let Joe use it, he will be nicer to me and Jane.”
او با خودش فکر کرد «از این می‌توانم یک سورتمه‌ی خوب درست کنم. اگر بگذارم جو از آن استفاده کند، با من و جین بهتر خواهد بود.»
He took the wood home.
او چوب‌ها را به خانه برد.
Mike got an ax and cut the
wood. He used nails to make
sure that the pieces were not
loose.
مایک تبری برداشت و چوب را خرد کرد. او از میخ استفاده کرد تا مطمئن شود که قطعه‌ها شل نباشند.
As he worked, he bumped his
elbow on the boards.
در حینی که کار می‌کرد، آرنج‌اش را روی تخته‌ها زد.
The painful sensation made
him want to cry.
احساس دردناک باعث شد بخواهد گریه کند.
It was a hard chore, but he
persisted. He worked
overnight.
کار سختی بود ولی او پافشاری کرد. او شب را کار کرد.
By morning, the sled was
finished.
صبح، سورتمه تمام شده بود.
Mike called Joe on the
telephone. He said, “Hi Joe.
Come over to my house right
away.”
مایک با تلفن به جو زنگ زد. او گفت «سلام جو. فوری بیا خانه‌ی ما.»
Joe didn’t know why Mike
wanted him to come over.
جو نمی‌دانست چرا مایک می‌خواست او بیاید آنجا.
When Joe arrived, Mike told
him, “Joe, it irritated me the
other day when you said mean
things about my card to Jane.”
وقتی جو رسید، مایک به او گفت «جو، چند روز قبل وقتی تو آن حرف‌های بد را در مورد کارتِ (تبریکی) که به جین (داده بودم) گفتی من را عصبانی کرد.»
”You weren’t kidding when
you said those mean things.
But I’m not like you. I just
built this sled, and I’ll let you
ride it with me if you are nice.”
«وقتی آن حرف‌های بد را می‌زدی شوخی نمی‌کردی. ولی من مثل تو نیستم. همین الان این سورتمه را درست کردم و اگر بچه‌ی خوبی باشی می‌گذارم با من سوار آن شوی.»
They became friends, and Joe
was grateful that Mike was so nice to him.
آنها دوست شدند و جو سپاسگزار بود که مایک اینقدر با او خوب است.
He learned that it is more fun
to be nice than to be mean.
او یاد گرفت که خوب بودن نسبت به پست و بد بودن خیلی جذاب‌تر و باحال‌تر است.

🦋 نکته ای در مورد فعل drive:
رایج ترین کاربرد کلمه drive معنی ‘رانندگی کردن’ را بیان می کند؛ از کلمه drive حتی می توان به معنی ‘با ماشین کسی را جایی رساندن’ هم استفاده کرد.
در این صورت بعد از کلمه drive نام شخصی که جایی رسانده می شود گفته می شود (یا از یک ضمیر برای آن شخص استفاده می شود) و بعد از نام شخص هم مکانی که آن شخص به آنجا برده می شود در جمله بیان می شود.
✅ به یک مثال توجه کنید:
My friend drove me to the airport yesterday.
دوست من دیروز من رو با ماشین به فرودگاه رسوند.
در این مثال همانطور که مشاهده می کنید از شکل گذشته فعل drive استفاده شده (یعنی از drove)، سپس از ضمیر me برای شخصی استفاده شده که با ماشین به جایی رسونده شده، و بعد هم مکان (فرودگاه) عنوان شده.
