Prime Minister Narendra Modi will pay a three-day visit to Germany and the United Arab Emirates beginning Sunday.
The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) said PM Modi will visit Germany from June 26 to June 27 to attend the G7 summit. "Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be visiting Schloss Elmau, Germany at the invitation of Chancellor of Germany, Olaf Scholz, for the G7 Summit under the German Presidency on June 26 and 27," the MEA said in a statement on Wednesday.

GE Steam Power signs $165 mn contract with BHEL for nuclear steam turbines.
GE Steam Power on Tuesday said that it has inked a USD 165 million pact with state-run engineering firm BHEL to supply three nuclear steam turbines. GE Steam Power has signed a USD 165 million contract with BHEL for the supply of three nuclear steam turbines out of six units for NPCIL's domestic nuclear program-phase 1 being developed at Gorakhpur, Haryana (units - 1 to 4 (GHAVP)) and Kaiga (Kaiga-5&6) Karnataka, a company statement said.
This domestic program includes 12 units of 700 MWe being developed by NPCIL with their own nuclear reactor technology i.e., Pressurized Heavy Water Reactors (PHWR). In total, it will represent 8.4GW of CO2-free electricity for the country, enough to power more than 14 million homes, it stated. In 2018, GE and BHEL had signed a business cooperation agreement and a License and Technology Transfer Agreement to enable them to manufacture nuclear steam turbines of 700 MW.

The Philippines on Wednesday held the send-off ceremony for its first batch of military personnel who would get training on the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile systems in India, said Government officials. Just earlier this year, the Philippines had accepted BrahMos Aerospace's export-order proposal to provide supersonic cruise missiles for its navy. The major deal worth $374.9 million was communicated to India through a Notice of Award by the Philippines Department of National Defence, signed by Secretary Delfinn Lorenzana. The order directed BrahMos Aerospace to provide the supply of the Shore based Anti-ship Missile System within ten calendar days of receiving the order.

BEL gets fresh orders for Swathi Mark II Weapon Locating Radar.
Indian Army has placed orders for Six units of Swathi Mark II Weapon Locating Radar with Bharat Electronics Limited (BEL) at an approx. cost of Rs 400 crores. Mark Il is high altitude optimized variant of the Swathi Weapon Locating Radar that is been cleared after going through a fresh round of trials in the mountain terrain. Swathi Mark II Weapon Locating Radar has been developed by the Electronics and Radar Development Establishment (LRDE) that is mounted on a BEML manufactured 6x6 truck instead of the baseline Swathi that is mounted on an 8x8 heavy-duty truck for easier operations in the mountain terrain. Mark II also has some performance improvements over its predecessor which likely will translate into more orders in near future coming from the Army for the new variant.

PM Richard Marles at INS Hansa, Goa was given a demonstration of the new personal air mobility vehicle 'Varuna' a personal air mobility vehicle capable of being launched and recovered from moving ships developed by Indian startup Sagar Defence Engineering and the Naval Innovation & Indigenisation Organisation (NIIO).
Varuna is planned to be used for inter-ship transfer of stores and personnel and can carry out Autonomous take-off and landing even when both the ships are on the move. Varuna already has carried out developmental trials in the sea and further trials are planned.

Under the revised procurement concept, the first part or phase of MRFA will involve the procurement of 54 foreign jets under the Buy Global (Manufacture in India) category of the Defence Acquisition Procedure (DAP), with the contract being awarded to a foreign OEM. Of these, 18 will be procured in a flyaway condition from the OEM while 36 will be manufactured in India by a local partner selected by the OEM. This partner will be from the private sector.
