Expressing anguish at the loss of lives and devastation caused by an earthquake in Afghanistan, Prime Minister Narendra Modi said on Wednesday that India is ready to provide all possible disaster relief material at the earliest. India stands by the people of Afghanistan, he said, "Deeply saddened at the news of the devastating earthquake in Afghanistan today. My deepest condolences on loss of precious lives," he said in a tweet. A powerful earthquake struck a rural, mountainous region of eastern Afghanistan early Wednesday, killing 1,000 people and injuring 1,500 more in one of the country's deadliest quakes in decades, the state-run news agency reported. Officials warned that the already grim toll may still rise.

"All the accused are highly-trained personnel of the Indian Army who were on a mission to neutralise a group of militants, including some of the top leadership of the NSCN-KYA," the report quoted a source at the Indian Army's eastern command. The source further stated that the chargesheet filed by the SIT tries to implicate that the SF soldiers were at the incident site "with the intention to kill innocent villagers".

The 38th edition of the IndiaIndonesia Coordinated Patrol (IND-INDO CORPAT) between the Indian Navy and the Indonesian Navy is being conducted from June 13 to 24. The Indian Naval Ship INS Karmuk, an indigenously built missile corvette based at the Andaman and Nicobar Command, along with a Dornier Maritime Patrol Aircraft, is participating in the CORPAT while the Indonesian Navy is being represented by KRI Cut Nyak Dien, a Kapitan Pattimura (PARCHIM I) class corvette.

In a recent development, a Public Interest Litigation (PIL) was filed in Delhi High Court, on Thursday, seeking direction from the Central government to change the call sign on Indian planes - ‘VT’ - which stands for ‘Victorian Territory and Viceroy Territory’.
The plea filed in the High Court stated that even after 75 years of Independence, the 'sign of slavery' - VT - still exists. 
The petitioner Ashwini Kumar Upadhyay, who is also a practising advocate and BJP leader, stated that Britain set the prefix ‘VT’ for India before the partition in 1929. 
The plea by Upadhyay stated, “The British set the code for all the colonies starting with V. However, countries like China, Pakistan, Nepal and Sri Lanka changed their codes later. While in India, the prefix has remained on the aircraft even after 93 years, which offends the right to dignity of citizens.”
