A while back my uneducated self thought charging your PC until 85% was dumb and inefficient.
But after some research all my devices now charge only upto 85% and I'm convinced that this will help prolong battery usage.
Here's why:
1. Reduced Stress on Battery Cells: Lithium-ion batteries experience the most stress when they're at full charge (100%) or completely empty (0%). So by limiting the charge to 85%, you keep the battery cells within a more comfortable range, reducing the strain on their chemical structure.
2. Reduced Heat Generation: The charging process naturally generates some heat. The higher the charge level, the more heat is produced. By stopping at 85%, you minimize this heat generation, which can also contribute to battery degradation over time.
3. Reduced Number of Charging Cycles: a charging cycle is a full discharge and recharge of the battery. Batteries have a limited number of cycles they can withstand before their capacity starts to decrease. By charging to 85% instead of 100%, you reduce the number of full cycles the battery goes through, potentially extending its overall life.
