Welcome to Art of Co!

This is the place where we’re going to share and discuss everything related to coliving, community and connection.

Now you might ask yourself: why Art of Co? 🧐

The answer is simple: because everything “co” is an art.

It’s hard to build community.
It’s hard to create true coliving experiences.
And it’s hard to feel connected.

But it’s not impossible!

I’ve personally been exploring these subjects in depth for the last years of my life. It’s been my mission to bring these topics to the world, and I’m honored to count you in this group 💥

In this channel, I will share a ton of stuff...

👉 All newest coliving initiatives and programs for coliving professionals
📚 Resources on community building
💭 Personal thoughts and insights from my daily conversations
🗣 And crucial discussions around these topics

How can you get the most out of it?

1. Introduce yourself by commenting on this post! Explain who you are and why you are passionated about the Co!

2. Write and engage. This group is made of experts in their respective fields, and knowledge can only come through exchange!

This is a big one: coliving.community

Over the last two years, I've always wanted to create a coliving aggregator that would filter by people's intentions.

For example, filtering based on whether the location is rural or urban. Filtering based on the intention of the space (such as work, art, etc). And filtering based on fundmanetal values.

My dear friend Jacob just launched www.coliving.community - the first platform that actually does so!

Highly recommend to check it out and find inspiration 🙃
Aaaaaand another big one: buildacommunity.co 🔥

My dear friend Sergio built this in cooperation with a few other community builders. This platform is a master resource for _everything_ community related.

Among others, it showcases tools for community building, approaches and frameworks, how to grow a community as well as how to start one!

Congrats to the entire team for launching this!
The House Monk just released it's global coliving report - it has some intersting stats, some of which I'm not sure how accurate they are (for example the 50% occupancy in the US) but interesting news, like the major funding rounds and their own coliving repertory!

👉 Check out the report at https://thehousemonk.com/global-coliving-report/ and you can see their coliving directory at https://www.thehousemonk.com/coliving-directory !
And the biggest news of December 2020: Starcity acquires Ollie!

https://news.crunchbase.com/news/starcity-acquires-another-co-living-startup/

In short, Ollie was the first coliving company to work with developers and get an entire building backed by institutional investors in the US.

When I met Chris (Bledsoe, CEO of Oli), he shared with me how it took him 400 meetings to get the investment. But it paid off, and he built a little empire - and empires like to be conquered.

Big move in the coliving scene!
So, I’ve realized something around #connection - here is the thought:

Some people find the majority of their motivation and happiness from within, while others from the outside.

Here is what I mean:

People who find motivation/happiness from within tend to
⁃ Find motivation by tapping into their desires
⁃ Get out of negative emotional states by consciously thinking about things that will bring them into positivity
⁃ Follow their personal commitments, regardless of their commitment to others

People who find motivation/happiness from the outside world tend to
⁃ Find motivation by engaging into a task or activity with another group or person
⁃ Get out of negative emotional states by changing their environment and surroundings
⁃ Follow the commitments they have with others, regardless of their own commitments towards themselves

Now, this is NOT binary - it’s like introvert versus extrovert, there is no-one that is 100% on one side.

It’s just a question of where do you lean towards.

So my question to you: are you more driven by yourself or the outside world?
