🥁 Drumroll for safer and more inclusive ‘hoods, especially for seniors, please! 👵🏻👴🏼
 
In addition to the 5️⃣ pilot towns announced at #COS2023, we’ll be expanding the #FriendlyStreets initiative to all towns in Singapore by 2030! 🥳 This will create more pedestrian-friendly and convenient ways for residents to travel within their ‘hoods to key amenities like hawker centres, community clubs, and schools.
 
Together with the community, we’ll be working closely together to discuss and implement the features that are tailored to their needs.🤝

Hurray! We’ve just announced that there’ll be a Friendly Street in ✨ every town ✨ to create safer, more convenient and enjoyable journeys for everyone by 2030! 🎉🌞

Here’s a quick #TLDR of what went down earlier at the groundbreaking event and a sneak peek on some of the features (and faces 😉) coming to #FriendlyStreets.

#ICYMI - We will be starting construction works for the first of five #FriendlyStreets pilot locations! 🎉 This will make daily commutes in our ‘hoods more convenient, safer, and inclusive for everyone - especially for families with children, seniors, and those with mobility needs.

Each neighbourhood will have features co-created with the community, catering to the unique needs of each town. Such features include:

☀️ More barrier-free crossings to improve accessibility;
☀️ Longer crossing times at signalised junctions; and
☀️ Traffic-calming measures e.g. road humps or narrowing road lanes to slow motorists down.

With more pedestrian-friendly features that make walking or cycling easier to get to key amenities, you can look forward to wider and more barrier-free crossings as well as shorter waiting time at signalised pedestrian crossings.

On Friendly Streets, With Smiles We Meet! 😎 This International Day of Persons with Disabilities, we're celebrating accessibility and welcoming improvements at #BukitBatokWest. 👨🏽‍🦽

With features like kerbless crossings, speed bumps, and longer green man crossing times, everyone can navigate the neighbourhood with confidence ease! Journeys to key amenities such as Hong Kah North CC, Bukit Gombak Sports Hall & Stadium, and Bukit Gombak MRT station are now safer, more convenient, and enjoyable.

Spot our #FriendlyStreets upgrades along Bukit Batok West Ave 5, Bukit Batok East Ave 5, and Bukit Batok Streets 31, 32, and 33. 🌈

#FriendlyStreets are here to make commuting smoother for everyone — from families with children to seniors and those with mobility needs.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦 Featuring our completed Friendly Street at #WestCoast, our upgrades from Clementi Avenue 2 to West Coast Link connect key spots like West Coast Market, West Coast Plaza, the Community Club, and Clementi Woods Park.

🌳 With features like more barrier-free crossings, and green road markings to nudge drivers to slow down, we’re creating a safer and more accessible environment for all. ☀️

Today, we unveiled 10 more #FriendlyStreets locations! This will make neighbourhoods safer, more inclusive and comfortable for residents, especially the elderly, families with children, and those with mobility needs. 👨🏻‍🦽

Some of the pedestrian-friendly features include:
🚶🏻 Kerbless crossings
🚦 Longer green man time at signalised crossings, and
🚗 Green road markings to alert drivers to slow down

Construction will progressively begin from 1H 2025, with completion expected by 2026.

#Update We’ve also completed 4 out of 5 of our Friendly Streets pilot towns - Ang Mo Kio, Bukit Batok West, Toa Payoh, and West Coast. Works in Tampines will be completed by Mar 2025.
