Ethiopia Launches It's first Stock Market Simulator to Boost Financial Literacy
Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – Ethiopia has taken a significant step toward financial market education with the launch of SLab, the country’s first stock market simulator. Developed by three Ethiopian innovators, SLab is designed to help users trade, learn, and explore capital markets in a virtual environment before the Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX) officially begins operations.
The platform introduces gamified, simulation-based learning tools to familiarize users with stock market structures, trading mechanisms, and regulatory frameworks. SLab offers structured educational modules, allowing participants to earn certifications at basic, advanced, and professional levels. It also includes downloadable reference documents such as the ECMA Rulebook 2025, institutional guidelines, and price limit frameworks.

Yared Mola, CEO of Nyala Insurance S.C. and President of the Association of Ethiopian Insurers, has been elected President of the African Insurance Organisation. His appointment was confirmed during the closing ceremony of the 51st AIO Conference and Annual Assembly, held from May 26–28, 2025, at Skylight Hotel in Addis Ababa.
Yared’s election marks a proud chapter for Ethiopia, as he becomes one of the few industry leaders from the country to hold this influential continental role. His leadership is expected to spotlight Ethiopia’s growing insurance market, while advancing the AIO’s mission to strengthen insurance cooperation and development across Africa.

The Ethiopian Securities Exchange (ESX), in collaboration with the Ethiopian Capital Market Authority (ECMA), is hosting a capacity-building webinar aimed at issuers and market participants. Under the theme “Navigating Securities Registration and Listing,” the webinar is designed to enhance understanding of the capital market landscape, regulatory requirements, and practical pathways to listing on the Ethiopian Securities Exchange. Topics include an overview of the capital market ecosystem and ESX’s products, securities registration procedures and obligations, the dematerialization process of publicly offered securities, and practical guidance on listing requirements and the IPO journey.

Haylu Alemu, the CEO of Addis Bank, explained during the announcement that the rebranding and name change were undertaken to align with the bank's long-term vision and strategic goals.
The bank’s former slogan, “Your First Choice,” has been replaced with a new brand message: “Trusted for Your Success.”
Addis Bank also highlighted that it was the first bank in the country to allow account opening using just a fingerprint—without the need for formal identification. This innovation has helped the bank expand its customer base and improve accessibility.
