"We are working on the basis that we are already advancing in vaccination, and we are going to advance more in this coming week; we are preparing an access traffic light to some public places, an access traffic light," Maduro said in a broadcast on state-run channel VTV.
In this sense, the Executive Vice President, Delcy Rodríguez, explained that it will work through "android" phones.
According to what she indicated, at the entrances of public places there will be people with a cell phone in their hands who will ask citizens for their identity card numbers to verify if they are vaccinated, healthy or infected with covid-19.
"Once you incorporate it into the phone or read the QR there you will be able to know if the person is positive to covid; obviously that is the red light (...) then there is the green light, it will turn on when it indicates that the person is vaccinated and can then enter the establishment," he explained.
While the yellow light will indicate that the person is healthy, but not vaccinated.
"The Minister of Commerce -Eneida Laya- will make the respective contacts with the Chamber of Restaurants so that it is established that only vaccinated persons must enter and, obviously, that they are not infected with covid-19", said Rodriguez.
Meanwhile, Maduro added that they expect this traffic light to start working first in restaurants and from the third week of October.
This new measure is in addition to the so-called "7+7" system which consists of allowing the opening of stores and places of entertainment for one week, followed by another 7 days in which the economy is partially interrupted, although it has not been fully complied with for months.
The Venezuelan Government applies these methods as a way to prevent the number of contagions in the country, which has already reached 379,352, while deaths have reached 4,576 since the beginning of the pandemic.
According to what Maduro said today, Venezuela has "achieved the goal of 50 %" of the "general" population vaccinated against covid-19, without specifying if he is referring to people who have received only one dose or the two doses necessary for an individual to be considered immunized.
However, according to data from the World Health Organization (WHO), in Venezuela 6,190,629 citizens have been vaccinated with full doses, i.e. 20.6%, while 9,926,613 have received only the first injection, which represents 30% of Venezuelans.
