speaker: Dr. Farhad Ghoddoussi
Nov 17, 2024

Chapters:
0:00 Greetings
1:57 List of Surahs related to Hazrat Maryam in Qur'an in Chronological Order of Revelation and the order of the verses
3:55 Reading the English translation of the verses discussed in this lecture Q19:16-21, Q3:44, Q23:50, Q21:89-91
13:16 Q21:90 The meaning of "We cured for him his wife" in Q21:90 based on a hadith from Tafsir Qumi is that the wife of Zachariah [Elizabeth] started to menstruate.
14:36 The two Christian texts which Qur'an in narrating the stories of Zachariah, Yahya (John the Baptist), Mary and Jesus have the most engagement (intertextuality) are the Gospel of Luke and the apocryphon ProtoGospel of James. The chronology of the writings of the synoptic gospels (Mark, Matthew and Luke) and the ProtoGospel of James. Netflix series on Hazrat Maryam to be released on Dec 6, 2024 is an adaptation from the ProtoGospel of James.
21:18 ProtoGospel of James-Section8: Mary staying in the temple for 10 years (from 3 to 13 years old). Receiving food from the angels. The search for who should be in charge of Mary’s care (2nd Custodianship) after she leaves the temple because she reached puberty and could not stay in the temple any more due to menstruation. Intertextuality with Q3:37 & Q3:44.
29:26 ProtoGospel of James-Section9: Joseph the Carpenter is chosen to be the custodian (husband, caretaker) of Mary. Taking Mary from the temple in Jerusalem to his house (according to the New Testament at Nazareth in Galilee).
37:04 ProtoGospel of James-Section10: Mary as a virgin and descendant of David was chosen to weave a part of the veil for the temple.
42:47 ProtoGospel of James-Section11: Annunciation. First Mary, when she went out of the house for bringing water heard a voice without seeing anyone that she is blessed among the women by God. Then when she went back home the angel of God appears to her and telling her that she shall conceive according to the God's command.
47:21 Q19:16-21 & Q3:44 The Discussion of the two custodianship of Maryam. The first one at age of 3 when she entered in the temple by Zachariah and the second one at age 13 when she left the temple by Joseph the Carpenter.
1:04:01 Matthew1:18-24 Joseph the Carpenter betrothed to Mary and seeing in a dream that an angel tells him that Mary will gave birth to a child that he should name him Jesus.
1:07:59 Where did Mary live after coming out of the temple in Jerusalem? Q23:50 indirectly hints that after the birth of Jesus, Mary and her son Jesus were settled in the village of Nazareth near the fresh water lake in Galilee.
1:12:45 Luke1: 26-38 Annunciation to Mary by the Angel of God.
1:14:34 Luke1: 39- 56 Mary visiting Elizabeth and the utterance of the Magnificat by Mary.

1:25:53 ProtoGospel of James-Section13: Joseph the Carpenter returns and notices Mary is pregnant.
1:28:24 ProtoGospel of James-Section14: Angel appears in the dream of Joseph the Carpenter.
1:30:31 Silence of the Qur'an regarding Joseph the Carpenter.
