Will We Ever Evolve Out Of Social Media?
There is a growing sentiment that social media is not a play place anymore. Instead it has become a burden we cannot shake.
🌼 Paraphrase "I DON'T UNDERSTAND"
What talking to a person whose speech is not clear, instead of saying the usual, boring and basic "I don't understand" try to incorporate these phrases:
🌼 I am not following
— literally: I am not following your train of thought, I am lost in your arguments or ideas.
🌼 I did not catch that
— literally: I didn't catch the meaning.
🌼 Sorry, come again?
— literally: repeat what you said again.
🌼 Sorry, what did you say? / I beg your pardon!
— perfect for politely showing that you don't understand and want the speaker to repeat.

— informal! You can say this to a friend so that they slow their speech and talk more clearly.

I've been an avid online learner for years. I remember how we first got the stable Internet connection at home and I discovered the abundance of learning tools available online.
I would come home from school, do my homework and then surf the Internet in search for education videos, books and courses. One of my favourites back at the time was the Khan Academy! First of all, I was impressed by the story of its founder who laid the foundation of the company when filming math tutorials for his younger siblings. I have 3 little sisters, so I felt for him! Also, the learning platform seemed very innovative, I honestly had fun solving Algebra and Geometry there!
Enough about me, I want to highlight the story of my friend Dennis, 19 y.o. He is from a town in Nigeria 🇳🇬, neither his parents can pay for his education nor he has the money...

I am very well aware that a job interview in English is quite a challenge, especially for the very first time. I suggest you hack the system and come fully prepared. The main plan of action is this:
1. Carefully study the job ad that you respond to
2. Tailor your CV to this position, exclude any details that are irrelevant to this job, make sure to focus on what makes you the best fit
3. Google the company, read about its culture, achievements, make a list of questions to the employer - this is very important to show that you're equally interested
4. Prepare a brilliant self intro that showcases your best sides
5. Make a list of questions you might be asked and prepare your answers in advance

🔑 KEY TO IELTS WRITING SUCCESS
Can you guess what might be the cornerstone of a high Writing band score? Or what might ruin a well-written essay? 🤔
The simple answer is Task Achievement. Let’s dig deeper.
TA is one of four criteria that IELTS writing tasks are judged by. The whole point of this criterion is to check how clearly test takers understood the task and fulfilled the given requirements. And this might be trickier than it sounds.
▪️In Task 1 General Training you will need to write a letter and the task will specify both the reason and recipient. So, keep in mind 2 things here - you're expected to cover all bullet points of the task and watch your tone.
▪️Make sure you haven't ignored who your reader is supposed to be and adapted your language to fit the given scenario. Imagine the face of your friend who receives a letter written in strict harsh formal tone. I bet the examiner’s reaction will be the same ;)
🔹In Task 1 for Academic you are provided with a graph/table or diagram. Be careful when analyzing. You are expected to identify main trends, peaks and lows without a fail and outline them in an overview.
🔹Don’t report every detail. If you recount detail mechanically with no clear overview the band score won’t improve to more than band 5. Therefore, make sure to illustrate key features and approach the task analytically. This is why remember to make comparisons wherever you can. The best way is to group data based on similarities and compare differences.
🔸Writing Task 2 is pretty similar for both modules, and you will have achieved the task once all the parts of the question are fully covered. This is why it’s worth underlining key words in the question before starting to answer. If you miss the word «outweigh» and just describe advantages and disadvantages, your band score will be just 5.
🔸Develop & support your ideas. with explanations, examples or experience. If you present a clear position but conclusions are vague or repetitive, don’t expect more than a band 6.
🔸Ensure your opinion is clear in your answer if you are asked for it. Sometimes, in "opinion essays" candidates just discuss the question statement and never articulate what their own opinion is, which drops TA score to 4.
Remember, even if your grammar and vocabulary are brilliant, not knowing how the Task Achievement works might ruin your essay completely. This is arguably the most important criterion in Writing.
