Uni-Abuja Ranked Top 16 Best Federal University in Nigeria, Overtakes ABU, FUTO, BUK, Others 🎓

The University of Abuja has been classified among the top 16 Best Federal Universities in Nigeria, according to the newly-released ranking system by the Nigerian University Commission (NUC).

In the newly published NUS ranking, the University of Abuja was ranked among the first sixteen federal universities in Nigeria, overtaking Ahmadu Bello University, Federal University of Technology Owerri, Bayero University, Kano and Usman Danfodio University, Sokoto who previously ranked higher in 2020.

University of Abuja did not only occupy the 16th position as the Best Federal University but was among the top 10 Institutions with the highest numbers of full professors. She is also ranked as the fourth-best Federal University in the North-Central geo-political zone and 56th out of the total 113 universities ranked in this edition. The ranking result can be seen on

The National Universities Commission (NUC) on December, 13, 2021 launched the 2021 edition of the Nigerian University Systems (NUS) Ranking. The occasion took place at the NAF Conference Centre, Kado, in Abuja as part of the Capacity Building Workshop for Public Universities supported by TETFund and organized for Vice-Chancellors, Directors of Academic Planning, Directors of Research, Directors of ICT, Librarians, as well as other stakeholders from government owned universities in Nigeria.

The National Universities Commission (NUC) in its latest 2021 ranking released recently, was carried out using 12 indicators, involving about 113 universities.

The higher institutions were ranked based on various criteria such as percentage of international staff, percentage of programmes with full-time accreditation, number of full-time students, international students, students and staff ratio, efficiency, google scholar index and contribution to the knowledge economy among others.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS INTO ANY ODL PROGRAMMES
Applicants seeking admission into the specified programmes of the Centre for Distance Learning and Continuing Education of the University of Abuja must possess any of the following requirements:

i.) A minimum of five credit passes including English and Mathematics obtained at not more than two (2) sittings in the relevant subjects from any recognized examination bodies such as: SSCE/WASC, GCE 'O' Level, NECO, NABTEB or TC II.

ii.) Two' A' Level passes with a minimum of five 'O' level credit passes in relevant subjects.

iii.) Direct Entry (DE) applicants must have at least four (4) credits including English and mathematics in SSCE or NECO in at most two sittings and at least two passes in ‘A’ level G.C.E or Diploma at Upper Credit level or 10 points in Interim Joint Matriculation Board (IJMB). NCE holders with a minimum of Ten points pass obtained from a recognized institution in addition to five (5) ‘O’ level credit passes as in (i) above can also be considered.

iv.) All applicants must satisfy the entry requirements of the University of Abuja. Applicants must have passed at credit level at least five (5) departmental relevant subjects including English Language and Mathematics at not more than two sittings.

DURATION AND MODE OF STUDY
All Programmes run for four or five years depending on entry qualifications. The mode of study is mainly through On-line Course Delivery, Multi-media Resources, Audio-Visual Materials (CDs, DVDs, Disk drive) etc.

METHOD OF APPLICATION
Prospective candidates are requested to process their admission through JAMB e-facility platform to register after which applicants can be seen on the institution’s CAPS dashboard for admission processing before proceeding to apply with JAMB Registration number online via CDL&CE Portal:

5: Indicate the mode of Study PART-TIME OR ODL
6. On the payment preview page, click on Generate RRR
7. Click make payment and you will be redirected to remita platform, enter your card details (Master Card or Visa Card)
8. After a successful payment, you will be redirected back to the portal and application number generated and you will be logout out.
9. Click on "Main Login", enter the generated application number and surname as the password to continue the application process
