Remember the 2 lots of land near the lake that Benton County Mayor Brett Lashlee bought for a combined total of $500?
Well Zillow now "zestimates" the value of each lot to be around $6,000.
There is also property that was sold privately to an acquaintance of Lashlee's in 2021. This lot has a large brick building, water, sewer, and electricity. The property is currently zoned residential but could easily be changed, and appears to have been a commercial building just a few yeats ago. This building was sold along with a residential-zoned vacant lot behind a power sub station for less than $2,000.
The condition of the building and the sub station definitely effect the values of the properties, but I don't think $1800 is a fair price. I searched newspaper records, and it appears the public was never made aware of the sale nor given an opportunity to bid.
Was there a kickback on these properties? Who knows. I think that's definitely something to look into.

Rutherford County School Director Vote Tally:

Sullivan 5
Ash 0
Sullivan will be the next Director of Education for Rutherford County.
A motion was then made to approve and finalize the vote:
5 yes
2 no
Sharp and Maxwell voted no.
3 lame ducks all voted yes.
The next step is contract negotiation.
This marks at least 5 consecutive directors in a row that have been hired from within the RCS system, dating back to 1997. This is also at least the 3rd Director with an education background at MTSU.
Glad we paid the TSBA so they could find an experienced director from their national candidate pool. 🙄
