My take on the new $CHZ tokenomics:
With the update, CHZ will be much more appealing to crypto people/funds/organizations and not just to retail traders. There was hardly any interest in CHZ from a DeFi/crypto audience so far and that might change with the new update. It will now generate an attractive APY, that can be used to create passive income.
Furthermore, the inflationary part is necessary to establish it as a layer 1 token. If the CHZ supply would be capped and it would be deflationary, everybody would just hold onto their tokens forever in hope that the price goes up. Deflationary tokens are a great store of value, but not a great solution for layer 1 tokens. As a layer 1, you need a vibrant token that runs your whole ecosystem. People need to spend their CHZ for gas fees, as liquidity provision, to participate in launches and so on, they can't just hold onto it forever or this ecosystem will be standing still.
I think before the whole transition to a layer 1 and the tokenomics upgrade, CHZ was a utility token for an app, something its founders envisioned in 2017/18 and it stayed that way for a long time. However, crypto has moved on: DeFi was not just a trend, it has stayed and has transformed crypto. There is a much higher potential usage of a layer-1 token with tokenomics appealing to DeFi traders and DeFi applications, whereas the usage of a utility token in an app is limited. I think it is a great step forward. 🌶️
