Doing & Being: Intersections of Community Organising

Petitioning, art-making, twitter-threading & more -- what are the different vehicles that allow us to participate in civil society, and how might they interact and evolve with each other to affect change?

Join us as we discuss what it means to participate in civil society at different levels, and through different mediums and roles: How can examining the multitude ways of doing civil society work -- from the women’s rights movements in the 1980s to anti-racist and climate crisis campaigns of the 2020s -- inform a way forward for us as collective, concerned citizenry?

The Mushroom at the End of the World

Matsutake is the most valuable mushroom in the world―and a weed that grows in human-disturbed forests across the northern hemisphere. Through its ability to nurture trees, matsutake helps forests to grow in daunting places. It is also an edible delicacy in Japan, where it sometimes commands astronomical prices. In all its contradictions, matsutake offers insights into areas far beyond just mushrooms and addresses a crucial question: what do we make of the ruins we have made?

Participate in this session as we imagine the possibilities with us, unpacking stories not of progress or ruin, but of collaborative survival - a commitment to living and dying in company with the critters around us.

Earth Day: Bigger Than Us (NC16) + Panel Discussion
