🎵Turning Tables

Close enough to start a war
All that I have is on the floor
God only knows what we're fighting for
All that I say, you always say more
I can't keep up with your turning tables
Under your thumb, I can't breathe
So I won't let you close enough to hurt me
No, I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I can't give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables, yes
To turning tables
Under haunted skies I see you
Uuh, and when love is lost, your ghost is found
I braved a hundred storms to leave you
As hard as you try, no I will never be knocked down
'Cause I can't keep up with your turning tables
Under your thumb, I can't breathe
So I won't let you close enough to hurt me, no
I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I can't give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables, yes
To turning tables
Next time I'll be braver
I'll be my own savior
When the thunder calls for me
Next time I'll be braver
I'll be my own savior
Standing on my own two feet
So I won't let you close enough to hurt me, no
I won't ask you, you to just desert me
I can't give you, what you think you gave me
It's time to say goodbye to turning tables, yes
To turning tables
Turning tables, yeah
Ta da da da, ta da da da, yes, I

New Cancer Treatment – level 1

A teenager goes to hospital. Doctors find a brain tumour in his brain. They send him to get cancer treatment. He gets the treatment at a new centre.

It is the first centre of this type in Britain. It uses new technology. The technology is very good. It destroys only the tumour. The rest of the brain is fine.

The new centre can help 750 people a year. People are building another centre in London. It opens next year.

The teenager likes the machines at the centre. He says that they are beautiful. He says that they look like things from the future. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Difficult words: brain tumour (an extra part in your body which can become cancer), cancer (when your body keeps growing tumours that can kill you; a very serious illness), treatment (making an ill person better).
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

New Cancer Treatment – level 2

Three months ago, a teenager’s doctors found a rare brain tumour in his brain. He is going to receive new cancer treatment at the UK’s first proton beam treatment centre.

The proton beam targets the tumour exactly and does not damage other parts of the brain.

The new centre will help 750 people a year, and people will open a second one in London next year.

The teenager liked the proton beam machines and said that they were beautiful and looked like things from the future. He thinks that they will help him ‘really well’. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

Difficult words: tumour (an extra part in your body which can become cancer), proton beam (a stream of tiny things like electricity that have energy inside them), target (aim at exactly).
━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

New Cancer Treatment – level 3

Fifteen-year-old Mason Ketly has a rare brain tumour that doctors found three months ago, and now he is going to receive pioneering cancer treatment at the UK’s first proton beam treatment centre.

The proton beam can remove only the tumour and avoid damaging other parts of the brain.

The new centre will help 750 people every year, and people plan to open a second one in London next year.

Mason said that the machines were ‘beautiful-looking’ and ‘futuristic’, and he thinks that they will help him ‘really well’. He wants to be a doctor when he grows up.

In 2014, the treatment centre was in the news when Ashya King’s parents took him out of a different hospital to take him out of the country to find a hospital that also had proton beam therapy.

Difficult words: tumour (a mass of cells in your body that can become cancer), pioneering (innovative, very new), proton beam (a stream of tiny things called protons that have energy inside them).

The environment

The environment
▫️Environmental problems
▫️Causes of environmental problems
▫️Solutions to environmental problems
▫️Effects of environmental problems

Be color-coded

Phrasal verb >> Purple
Collocation >> orange
Grammar >> red
Prepositions >> green

Trump–Kim Talks – level 1

North Korea has nuclear weapons. The USA does not like this. The USA wants North Korea to get rid of its nuclear weapons. The USA puts sanctions on North Korea. North Korea does not like this.

This is a difficult situation. The leaders of the countries meet. Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un talk about it. They meet in Vietnam. They talk for two days.

North Korea can get rid of many nuclear weapons. To do this, North Korea wants all of the sanctions to stop. The USA does not want to stop all of them.

Nothing comes from the talks. Nothing is bad, and nothing is good.

Difficult words: nuclear weapons (bomb and rockets which can destroy cities and countries), get rid (put away), sanctions (rules on what a country can or cannot do).

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Trump–Kim Talks – level 2

There was a historic meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un last week, and they met in Vietnam’s capital of Hanoi. They were there to talk about the denuclearisation of North Korea.

The meeting ended earlier than planned, and they did not sign a deal. Trump later explained why he walked away from the talks.

He said that North Korea wanted to denuclearise a large area, which is what the USA wanted, but North Korea wanted USA to stop all the sanctions for that. The USA did not want to do that, so the meeting ended.

Trump said that the two days of talks were interesting, productive and friendly. The talks between the two countries will continue.

Difficult words: denuclearisation (putting away nuclear weapons – bombs and rockets), sign a deal (say ‘yes’ to an official document), denuclearise (put away nuclear weapons), sanctions (limits to what a country can or cannot do).

━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━━

Trump–Kim Talks – level 3

The historic meeting between Donald Trump and Kim Jong-un took place in Vietnam’s capital of Hanoi last week.

The centre of the summit was a denuclearisation between the two countries. However, the talks ended earlier than planned, and people cancelled the signing ceremony.

President Trump explained his decision to walk away from the denuclearisation deal in a press conference. He said that North Korea was willing to denuke a large portion of the areas that the USA wanted it to, but North Korea wanted all of its sanctions lifted for that, and the USA could not do this. Nevertheless, Trump said that the countries conducted the talks in a constructive and friendly manner and that work and talks between them will continue.

Difficult words: summit (a meeting), denuke (short for denuclearise – get rid of nuclear weapons), sanctions (putting limits to what a country can and cannot do), lift (end, stop).
