Konark Sun Temple is a 13th-century CE (year 1250) Sun temple at Konark about 35 kilometres (22 mi) northeast from Puri city on the coastline in Puri district, Odisha, India. The temple is attributed to king Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty about 1250 CE.

The current temple is attributed to Narasimhadeva I of the Eastern Ganga dynasty, r. 1238–1264 CE– . It is one of the few Hindu temples whose planning and construction records written in Sanskrit in the Odia script have been preserved in the form of palm leaf manuscripts that were discovered in a village in the 1960s and subsequently translated. The temple was sponsored by the king, and its construction was overseen by Shiva Samantaraya Mahapatra. It was built near an old Surya temple. The sculpture in the older temple’s sanctum was re-consecrated and incorporated into the newer larger temple.
The Restoration of Murshidabad

In the early 1700s, Murshidabad had more wealth than the British aristocracy combined. It was the capital of a region that generated 5% of global GDP. But since independence, it has simply slipped off the map

India has more heritage than most other countries in the world, but the vast majority of it lies unprotected. This is as true of Murshidabad as anywhere else. Vast swathes of the city have been demolished in recent decades - priceless history that has been erased from the map

So often when travelling India, I get upset by this crass destruction of important heritage. In North India particularly, whole princely states worth of palaces, mosques and temples lie on the verge of destruction.

So it comes as a nice change to see a major conservation effort going on in Murshidabad.

Shakta traditions consider the temple as one of the 52 Maha (major) Shakti Peethas dedicated to Durga.
The Twin Tombs of Ghiyas-ud-din Tuqluq.

Soon after the death of the totalitarian ruler Alauddin Khilji, Delhi fell into chaos. Khilji had made many enemies and his successor was assassinated by his Gujarati slave Khusrao Khan in 1320, after just four years on the throne.

Enter Ghiyas-ud-din Tuqluq, one of Punjab's greatest generals, who had repulsed the Mongol invasions.

Swearing to defeat the usurper, Tuqluq now invaded Delhi, executed Khan, and took the throne for himself. The reign of the Tuqluq's had begun

The Rukn-i-Alam tomb in Multan was initially built for Ghiyas-ud-din when he was a mere general. But after he became Sultan in Delhi, he donated the old tomb to the Sultanate's most famous Sufi Saint

Ghiyas-ud-din Tuqluq's reign was not without conflicts. His feud with the renowned Sufi saint, Nizamuddin Auliya, would ultimately lead to an unprecedented death and built a red sandstone tomb in Delhi, outside Tuqlaqabad.
Only 4 km away from Akbar's tomb (Sikandra). Shyaam kuti is situated on the bank of Yamuna. Shyaam Kuti was built by Pt. Shyaam(Shiam) Lall. He was the proprietor of the "Agra Marble Works Co.".

"Agra Marble Co." was opened by the ruler of Burdwan "Sir Bijay Chand Mehtab" in 1914. Shyaam (Shiam) refers to "Lord Krishna" or the "Pt. Shyaam Lall" himself, And Kuti refers to "hermitage". Pt. Shyaam Lall built it in 1919.

Here's Lord Krishna's temple (pic 3 to 6) on the first floor, and a Shiva Temple on the ground floor. This whole structure was built in the early 20th century, but "Shiva Linga" (Pic 10) seemed much older to "me" than the whole structure of "Shyaam Kuti". I have read in some posts that this place is a little haunted, but in reality it is nothing like that.
Virupaksha Temple is the main centre of pilgrimage at Hampi and had been considered the most sacred sanctuary over the centuries. It is intact among the surrounding ruins and is still used in worship . The temple is dedicated to Lord Shiva, known here as Virupaksha/Pampa pathi, as the consort of the local goddess Pampadevi who is associated with the Tungabhadra River.

#KailashaTemple - Cave no. 16 of #ElloraCaves in India , features the largest single monolithic rock excavation in the world.
Mahatma Phule Mandai, Pune.

The mandai is built of local basalt stone; its construction was overseen by architect Vasudev Bapuji Kanitkar. The neo-Gothic structure is octagonal, with rooms in the centre of the summit leading to the former municipal office and the Lord Reay Industrial Museum (renamed the Poona Industrial Museum and later the Mahatma Phule Museum upon its relocation to Ghole Road).

The building in the middle is surrounded by eight β€˜petals’ with slats. The walls of the main building are decorated with limestone flowers, leaves, and animals. The expansive arches and windows maintain a consistent flow of air and light.

Open structures such as this are useful for a tropical region like India, preventing the rapid decay of perishable farm produce.
The stalls in the market are organised in an orderly manner, with designated areas to purchase different varieties of farm produce and ample space for sellers to accommodate themselves as well as excess produce.
