In June 1990, NSG was deployed in Border Districts of Punjab to assist civil administration in combating increased menace of terrorism. NSG Task Force was deployed in Punjab from 20 June to 11 Nov 1990. The operation was code-named “Operation Cloud Burst”. The operation helped in raising the moral of local Security Forces and civil administration. After induction of NSG, the terrorist activities drastically decreased and confidence of civil population & local administration was restored.
In entire five months duration, NSG had seven encounters with terrorists in which 16 terrorists were eliminated with huge recovery of arms and ammunitions. No fatal casualty was suffered by NSG.

An additional $250 million will be provided as co-financing from the Asian Infrastructure and Investment Bank (AIIB), the bank said, adding that the project aims to help meet the cost vaccine purchases.
