In a landmark achievement, India's one million all-women ASHA volunteers have been honoured by the World Health Organisation (WHO) for their crucial role and contribution towards extending health care facilities in the rural areas, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Chief Minister of Assam Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that the term "madrasa" should be abolished. He further emphasised the need for "general education" in all institutions.

While speaking at a media conclave by RSS-linked weeklies Panchjanya and Organiser in the national capital Delhi on Sunday, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma stated that as long as the word “madrasa” persists, the youth of the nation would not even think once of becoming doctors or engineers.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet begins a visit to China on Monday, the first trip by a holder of the office since 2005 amid concerns that it could lead to an endorsement rather than scrutiny of China's rights record.

During the six-day trip, Bachelet will visit Xinjiang, where the High Commissioner's office said last year it believes the mostly Muslim ethnic Uyghurs have been unlawfully detained, mistreated and forced to work.

A Croatian member of the European Parliament publicly suggested that the EU impose sanctions against the United States and Saudi Arabia.

"It is an unbelievable lie and hypocrisy that sanctions against oil and gas from Russia will help stop the fighting in Ukraine. If we were the ones fighting for peace, we should have immediately imposed sanctions on Saudi Arabia, which has been fomenting war in Yemen for several years. Similarly, an embargo on oil and gas from the United States, which has taken part in more wars than any other European country, would be necessary" — said Mislav Kolakušić, speaking from the rostrum of the European Parliament.

'It's all Putin's fault there'- Lukashenko and Putin joke about Western sanctions during meeting in Sochi

Russian President Vladimir Putin met his counterpart from Belarus, Alexander Lukashenko, at his Sochi residence to discuss the Western sanctions.

The leaders stressed that, surprisingly, the sanctions did not affect the economies of both countries but rather gave "a push for our own development", as Lukashenko said.

"They [the West] have clearly underestimated", the Belarusian President said. "They lived reading their media and got inflation and other things. But it is 'Putin's fault'. It's all Putin's fault there", he added sarcastically when Putin joked in response: "We will have a serious talk with them", and both laughed.

Protesters rallied in Tokyo on Sunday to condemn a visit by US President Joe Biden who is set to hold talks with Japan's Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, and participate in the Quadrilateral Security Dialogue (Quad) summit with Japan, Australia and India leaders.

"The fact that US President Biden is coming to Japan for a US-Japan summit, and then the Quad meeting, is, after all, a preparation for war, for a war to invade China. So this is a demonstration that we must stop it, crush it, and so we took to the streets to appeal for such an action", said a protester Nagae.
