Project Devil

Project Devil was an project by DRDO, along with a sister project "Project Valiant" in 1970s. The Goal of the project was to develop a Short Range Surface to Surface Missile. In 1972 DRDO received funding of 160 million rupees for Both project and later 50 million rupees specifically for Project Devil.

Due to internal disputes, external interest waned in both project. And after their model did not performed well, In 1974, Project Valiant was terminated & Project Devil re-conceived as a project to gather information & technology rather than an effort to produce an actual missile. In Jan 1975, ISRO was appointed to run an external review of Project Devil, in March 1975, found it had been successful in several areas and should be permitted to continue.

Although the Project was discontinued in 1980 without achieving full success.
But the R&D did not go waste, Project Devil led to the later development of the PRITHVI MISSILE in the 1980s.
