In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, U.S. Africa Command conducted airstrikes against ISIS-Somalia on Feb. 1, 2025.
The commandβs initial assessment is that multiple ISIS-Somalia operatives were killed in the airstrikes and no civilians were harmed. U.S. Africa Command takes great measures to prevent civilian harm. Protecting civilians remains a vital part of the commandβs operations to promote a more secure and stable Africa.
U.S. Africa Command will continue to assess the results of this operation and will provide additional information as appropriate. Specific details about the operation will not be released in order to ensure continued operations security.

*Key Income Tax Updates*:
1. Senior Citizen FD TDS Exemption:
The TDS exemption limit on fixed deposit interest for senior citizens has been increased from βΉ50,000 to βΉ1,00,000.
2. NPS Vatsalya for 80CCD Deduction:
Contributions under the NPS Vatsalya scheme are now eligible for deduction under Section 80CCD.
3. TDS on Rent:
Tax deduction at source (TDS) will apply on rent payments exceeding βΉ6 lakh per year.
4. Notional Rent on Self-Occupied Properties:
No notional rent will be imputed for up to two self-occupied residential properties.
5. Updated Return Filing Period:
Taxpayers can now file an updated income tax return (ITR) for up to four years from the end of the relevant assessment year.

The tax-free income threshold under the new tax regime has been raised to βΉ12 lakh, although income from capital gains is not included in this exemption.

In an exceptional gesture, President Draupadi Murmu granted permission to CRPF Assistant Commandant Poonam Gupta to get married inside the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
The reason behind the Presidentβs exceptional decision was Poonam Guptaβs good conduct. As per reports, President Murmu was impressed by the distinguished service of Gupta. Indian Army's Trishakti Corps has successfully conducted a live fire exercise validating its battle readiness, rapid deployment and precision strike capabilities.
On 05 Feb 2025, based on specific input, a Joint Search Operation was launched by IndianArmy, Police in Angan Pathri area of Rampur, Baramulla.
During the search, a hideout was busted along with recovery of three AK Rifles, 11 AK Magazines, nine UBGL Grenades, two Hand Grenades & other war-like stores.

On 05 Feb 2025, based on a specific intelligence input about move of terrorists, a Mobile Vehicle Check Post (MVCP) was established by Security Forces.
One speeding suspicious civil truck was spotted. When challenged, the truck didn't stop despite repeated warnings instead accelerated further while crossing the check post. Alert troops pursued the vehicle for over 23 km. Shots were fired aiming on tyres to deflate which forced vehicle to halt at Sangrama Chowk. Consequent to detailed search, the injured driver was immediately evacuated to GMC Baramulla by Security Forces where he was declared dead.
The fully loaded truck has been sent to nearest police station. Detailed search of the truck in police custody is underway and investigation on antecedents of the suspect is in progress.

Indian Army has cancelled contracts worth Rs 230 crore to procure at least 400 drones to be deployed along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Eastern Ladakh over the alleged use of Chinese components.
The contracts were for 200 medium-altitude drones, 100 heavyweight drones, and 100 lightweight logistics drones.
One of the affected companies was the Chennai-based Dhaksha, which had secured an order for logistics drones. The deal was put on hold since August 2024 due to concerns over Chinese manufacturing components.

The 2025 edition of the Indian Navy's capstone Theatre Level Operational Exercise (TROPEX), is currently underway in the Indian Ocean Region. This operational level exercise is conducted biennially with participation by all operational Indian Navy units along with substantial participation of Indian Army, Indian Air Force and Coast Guard assets. TROPEX 25 is aimed at validating Indian Navy's core warfighting skills and ensuring a synchronised, integrated response to preserve and protect national maritime security interests in a contested maritime environment against conventional, asymmetric as well as hybrid threats.
TROPEX 25 is being conducted over three months from Jan - Mar 25. The exercise is being conducted in various phases - both in the harbour and at sea, integrating various facets of combat operations, cyber and electronic warfare operations, and live weapon firings during Joint Work Up Phase and Amphibious Exercise (AMPHEX).
