'Turkey will no longer look at this business the way they do' - Erdogan raises security concerns
NATO enlargement could only be accompanied by careful consideration of Turkish 'sensitivities', Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan stated during a parliamentary speech in Ankara on Wednesday.
According to Erdogan, Sweden and Finland would prevent the extradition of prisoners of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) and People's Defence Units (YPG), which are classified as terrorist organisations, but at the same time demand Turkey's approval for NATO membership.
It had been planned that the NATO Council would immediately decide to start accession talks after the handover of the applications from Sweden and Finland. But according to information from Alliance circles, Turkey made it clear in the meeting that it could not agree at present.
