WTO gives in to India's demands, agrees to fisheries subsidies and TRIPS waiver.

After vital negotiations running for five nights, 164 ministers of the World Trade Organisation (WTO) on Thursday reached a historic declaration on disciplining harmful fishing subsidies and the TRIPS waiver. The formal announcements on the deal have already arrived. "All multilateral agreements full agreed were unanimously signed" at the 12th Ministerial Conference (MC12) of the WTO in Geneva, a government source informed, as quoted by PTI.

China will host the 14th summit of Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa (BRICS) nations on June 23 through a video conference link, said the country’s Foreign Ministry on Friday. Since China is this year’s chair of BRICS, the meeting will be led by Chinese President Xi Jinping, confirmed Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Hua Chunying. China on Friday placed a hold on a joint proposal of the United States and India to list Pakistan-based terrorist Abdul Rehman Makki under United Nations Security Council (UNSC) sanctions. The last-minute hold was put by Beijing on a proposal moved to list the US-designated terrorist and brother-in-law of Lashkar-e-Taiba head and 26/11 mastermind Hafiz Saeed, as a 'global terrorist'. New Delhi and Washington had proposed to designate Makki under the 1267 ISIL and Al Qaida Sanctions Committee of the UN Security Council.

Amid the row over the reopening of girls' schools in Afghanistan, The Taliban have failed to justify the suspension of girls' schools before the United Nations on Thursday. Richard Bennett, the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Afghanistan Human Rights, stated that precise explanations were not presented for the shutdown of Afghan girls' schools.
During an interview with Tolo News, Bennet said, β€œThe reason... they said there technical reasons. Specific reasons were not given and I was not told that they would remain closed.” 
Bennet went on to say, β€œI was told and I repeat this that a committee will be... is working on it and will be reporting. I pressed them for when that report would be made and when.. schools will reopen".

Indian para-athlete Ashok Malik has won a gold medal for his country at the ongoing Asia-Oceania Para Powerlifting Championships in Pyeongtaek, South Korea. Malik won the top prize in the 65 kg category after he lifted a total weight of 491 kg. Malik lifted 150 kg in his first attempt and then went on to lift 168 and 173 kgs in his next two attempts to clinch the gold medal.
