Rafale, 2 Boeings, JAS-39 Gripen & F-21 - 5 in race for IAF's Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft deal.

Three American fighters, one French, and one Swedish, are in the race for a planned Indian Air Force (IAF) acquisition deal for 114 Multi-Role Fighter Aircraft (MRFA), ThePrint has learnt. The MRFA deal entails the procuring of 114 modern multi-role fighters by the IAF to develop and advance its squadron. Cumulatively, the deal is amongst the largest purchase plans for fighter aircraft, valued at nearly $20 billion.
While the deal has been under discussion since 2018, the details are being deliberated by the Union government again. ThePrint had earlier reported that the deal is likely to head towards a split, with the government inclined to place orders for fighters in at least two batches.
India will have its first hypersonic missile in five six years: BrahMos Aerospace CEO.

India-Russia defence Joint Venture BrahMos Aerospace is capable of making hypersonic missiles and will be able to have its first such missile in five to six years, BrahMos Aerospace informed on Monday.
"BrahMos Aerospace is capable of making hypersonic missiles. India appears to be expanding its nuclear arsenal, claims SIPRI.

India had 160 nuclear warheads as on January 2022 and it appears to be expanding its nuclear arsenal, Stockholm-based defence think tank SIPRI claimed on Monday. Similarly, Pakistan also appears to be expanding its nuclear arsenal, the Stockholm International Peace Research Institute (SIPRI) said in a statement.

India starts testing improved ramjet propulsion for BrahMos NG

BrahMos Aerospace has commenced work on the development of improved ramjet propulsion that could enable the BrahMos-NG missile to achieve near hypersonic speeds (Mach 4.5), BrahMos CEO has confirmed that it has started testing improved ramjet propulsion in its basic configuration and new missile system will be ready for developmental trials in the next 2-3years and be ready for serial production in the next five years.
1.6-ton BrahMos-NG will pack a similar range of 290 400km and the first to be developed will be an air launched variant for the airforce that will enable it to be carried on every fighter-type without requiring any strengthening or modification to the airframe.
Space startups sign MoUs with Isro to use govt geospatial data.

The Indian National Space Promotion and Authorisation Centre (IN-SPACE) has facilitated the signing of 10 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) between private Indian companies, and the Indian Space Research Organisation (Isro). The MoUs cover a range of applications, which include the use of Isro's geospatial data for use in a proprietary platform.
The signing of MoUs took place at the inauguration of IN-SPACE's headquarters in Ahmedabad, Gujarat on Friday by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Home minister Amit Shah and Isro chairman S Somanath among others were present on the occasion.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Monday said India needs to remain prepared for a full-scale war in the future and called for better synergy between the armed forces and the civil administration for this. In an address at Mussoorie's Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration, Singh also mentioned the fighting in Ukraine to stress that security challenges have become more complex now with cyber and proxy wars. He said India belleves in peace and "waging war is not in our character".
Indian, Indonesian Navies Conduct Joint Exercise In Arabian Sea.

The navies of India and Indonesia on Monday began an 11-day coordinated patrol in Andaman Sea and Malacca Strait. The 38th edition of the exercise IND-INDO CORPAT, conducted for the first time after the COVID-19 pandemic, will take place till June 24, a statement issued by the Andaman and Nicobar Command (ANC) said.
As part of the exercise, Indonesian naval units will visit the ANC headquarters at Port Blair from June 13-15, followed by a sea phase in Andaman Sea and then a visit by Indian Navy units at Sabang in Indonesia from June 23-24.
