Johnson apologises for 'Partygate', refuses to resign

Prime Minister of the United Kingdom Boris Johnson apologised for 'Partygate', the name given to him breaking the COVID-19 pandemic laws by throwing a party during lockdown, at a session in the House of Commons on Tuesday in London.

Whilst Johnson apologised, he refused to call the event a party, instead claiming it was a " gathering in the Cabinet room”, and that the thought it was a breach of law hadn't "occurred" to him.

Johnson has been fined for his failure to observe the laws during the COVID-19 pandemic by the Metropolitan Police following an investigation into the event.

The scandal has led to repeated calls for Johnson's resignation. He is expected to face a vote in the House of Commons on Thursday on whether he intentionally misled Parliament or not.
