Will the Earth die today?
CERN's Large Hadron Collider fires up for third time to unlock more secrets of the universe.
And people all over the world are panicking that they will create a black hole that'll suck the earn in.
But no worries my people, here's why it won't be the end of us all. See when the LHC was first built, it was explained that microscopic black holes could be created. This generated panic in the non-scientific communities that the black holes would swallow the earth. But, while black holes will be created, they are so small that they evaporate nearly immediately and pose no risk to the earth. Because these black holes are fed any mass to increase their size and power. And yet every time the LHC gets turned back on, people bring it up again, and cause havok.

Also the reason any black hole actually generated would evaporate immediately is because they'd have no mass to back themselves up. At most they'd weigh something like a few hydrogen atoms. The resulting black hole would dissipate into Hawking radiation almost instantaneously.
To give an idea how much of a non issue it would be: If you took the moon and compressed it down until it became a black hole, absolutely nothing would happen to us. We'd lose the lunar cycle and animals that relied on moonlight would be f*cked up, but the black hole moon would behave just the same as it always does. It'd revolve around the earth at the same speed. The tides would stay the same. We wouldn't get sucked up into it. The event horizon (the actually dangerous part) would be about the size of a medium sized grain of sand. And that's a black hole with the mass of the moon!
The LHC isn't gonna do anything to us.
