Day 0
Bought a pot for around 200 birr at garment. I picked a white one cause it looks really beautiful in person and it also matches the color of my home and room. It's the smallest I could find.
The pot comes with a smaller cap thing that you put underneath it so the drainage or spill of the soil doesn't ruin whatever you're placing the pot on. And you can place the pot anywhere indoors.

Day 1
This sounds silly but the very first question I asked was where I could get soil. I laughed at my self tbh. But it was a really valid question. Soil is dirt cheap and yet couldn't get it randomly.
Mom has her beautiful garden and even stored up some so she gave me enough from that. If it wasn't to her I would've been planting it in Ashewa lol
Then I drilled holes at the bottom of the pot to drain the water. This's very important as water tends to accumulate at the bottom and lead to root rotting.
Then finally planted two mint stems and watered them. I left it outside so it can get sunlight well.

I love mint so much!! It's what I wanted to plant and use. I use mint in mojitos, tea, and even eat it with Indomin and Tuna.
The smell calms me and makes me feel so good. It's just something I really really like. It's scent freshns up places and it's also very easy to handle.
A very interesting thing that happened was when I was adjusting the soil I was asking God if He really did make me out of this. It wasn't disbelief it was so much curiousity about how God saw a pile of soil and saw a human out of it. Still amazes me.
At an early age one of the reasons I picked software engineering was to be clean all the time and not mess around with hardware, dirt and stuff like that. So it's very very rare for me to actually touch soul or mud. But doing it felt so healthy and like it's so natural to do so. Avoiding it felt like the unnatural thing.

Day 2
Looked drier and less alive than yesterday. Looking at it throughout the day it looks like there's no progress whatsoever.
Mint is one of those plants that you think is dead but what's hard is actually killing it. Specially if you plant it directly on the ground it will just keep growing infinitely.
I thought I left it on the sun too much. So I just moved it to a slightly shaded place. And honestly can't see any positive change. So I'll just hope for it.

Today is day 3 but I left home in a hurry this morning so I couldn't take a pic. I will capture an update later.
Till then tho here are somethings to know about mint. The scientific name is Mentha and there are around 30 variaties of it.
The one I planned is the commonly found Spearmint (Mentha spicata Syn. Mentha viridis) It is this type that gives toothpaste, chewing gum or sweets their minty taste.
They're very easy to grow. Infact they're basically an infestation if you plant them in a wide area. That's why they're sometimes used to cover large gaps in places.
They can grow in literally any environment. Just don't water them too much and try to give them some shade too. And you're basically okay.

Every gardening subreddit involves a post about how fast and how much it overgrows and can be so hard to maintain and even kill. It's hilarious tbh.

This's just a small start to see if I wanna keep doing this or not. I want to plant more. Currently I'm only thinking of edible things. Plus I don't think I have a favorite flower other than roses. And roses I feel like might be hard to maintain.
One other thing is obviously finding a way to automate this but mint is so easy that I don't really have to worry about it much after it sets root.
If my mint grows a lot. Everyone here gets a free mojito or mint tea from me đ

Make the most out of everything now. Don't wait till you get that job or till you move out or change country or anything. If there's any delay till that happens just start and make the most out of it now.
I always waited for the right home or when I moved out to start gardening and even other things. But nah these are the days I'm not going to get again. Why would I waste them.
