- Tether CTO says US treasury notes account for more than 58% of USDT's reserves: On Monday, the chief technology officer of Tether Holdings Limited, Paolo Ardoino, explained that U.S. Treasury bills represent more than 58% of the company’s reserves. The announcement follows Tether hiring the accounting firm BDO Italia and the stablecoin issuer’s quarterly attestation, which had shown a decrease in commercial paper holdings.
- Data shows bitcoin's hashrate has grown by more than 4 quadrillion percent since 2009: Following the network difficulty change six days ago on September 27, Bitcoin’s hashrate surpassed the 295 exahash per second (EH/s) range two times during the first two days of October. Presently the network is coasting along at 229 EH/s and block intervals have been faster than the ten-minute average, which means another upward difficulty adjustment is likely in the cards. With Bitcoin’s mining difficulty looking as though it will reach another all-time high (ATH), the network’s hashrate has increased exponentially from six million hashes per second to the recent two hundred ninety-five quintillion hashes per second.
- SEC charges socialite Kim Kardashian for unlawfully touting Ethereummax: On Monday, the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) filed charges against the celebrity and socialite Kim Kardashian for unlawfully promoting the crypto asset Ethereummax. The U.S. regulator detailed that Kardashian agreed to settle the charges and pay $1.26 million in penalties, and plans to cooperate with the SEC’s ongoing investigation.

📰 Good evening to all of you! I hope you are doing well.
📈 US stocks jumped on Monday, kicking off the fourth quarter. We're coming off the worst month of September on record since 2002, with the S&P 500 falling 9.3% and tech stocks collapsing. Bitcoin also passed the $20,000 mark before dropping slightly below it.
🛢 The OPEC+ oil alliance, led by Saudi Arabia and Russia, plans a production cut to prevent prices from falling. This move threatens to drive up the price of oil at a time when much of the world is struggling to cut energy costs... Thanks guys!
💰 Pigment, a French company developing a financial planning solution, has raised $65 million.
🔐 Trading app Robinhood is closing five offices as part of a massive expense reduction campaign.
🍏 Tim Cook, Apple's CEO believes strongly in augmented reality. He stated that "it won't be long before you wonder how you ever led your life without it."
🎮 Sony plans to manufacture 2 million PlayStation VR2 (virtual reality) headsets by March 2023.
🤳 Kim Kardashian's Insta posts supporting EthereumMax cost her $1.26 million for failing to specify that it was a paid promotion. In addition to the fine, she won't be allowed to talk about cryptos for several years.
💔 Inflation isn't helping singles. A new survey from LendingTree finds that 20% of single Americans are going out on dates less often because of inflation. Yet 22% of millennials said they're willing to go into debt to find their soulmate, love is beautiful.
😬 Celsius founder Alex Mashinsky withdrew $10 million from the company weeks before it froze withdrawals for customers. He then filed for bankruptcy with about $4.7 billion in customer debt. The Vermont Department of Financial Regulation says Celsius was a Ponzi scheme.
🛍 Live shopping on TikTok could soon launch in the United States. Last year, its Chinese sister app, Douyin, sold over 10 billion products via livestreams.
🚴 In the U.S., Peloton will outfit every Hilton hotel with bikes.
👗 South Korea's Naver (search engine and internet services) agrees to acquire Poshmark (e-commerce) for $1.2 billion (so that's half the stock price when it went public 😬). Poshmark's stock is up more than 14% after a few hours.
Have a nice evening and see you tomorrow!

📰 Good evening to all of you! I hope you had a great weekend. We're about to enter the busy season of financial results once again, which gives us a little insight into the state of our savings.
📊 So the important financial results for the week ahead are:
▪️10/10: LVMH
▪️12/10: PepsiCo, Duck Creek Technologies
▪️13/10: BlackRock, Delta Air Lines, Domino's Pizza, Taiwan Semiconductor, Walgreen Boots Alliance
▪️14/10: Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase, Morgan Stanley, Wells Fargo
😩 Hackers stole the equivalent of at least $100 million in tokens from Binance, the world's largest crypto exchange, by attacking a bridge to the BSC blockchain. But Binance's CEO said the situation is now under control.
🛡️ Joe Biden signs an executive order to implement Privacy Shield 2.0, a new framework for protecting data transfers between the U.S. and the EU that says (among other things) that Europeans' data will not be analyzed by U.S. services.
😮 The Crypto.com platform's workforce decreased by 30-40% between June and August 2022. More than 2,000 employees left the company, the majority in layoffs.
🤯 While Decentraland (an Ethereum-based virtual world) and its competitor The Sandbox are each valued at over $1 billion, the maximum daily users reached on these metaverses were 675 and 4,503 respectively (according to DappRadar). Just wow! I think there are more on Snowball... Okay, okay, we can't compare, but hey...
⚡️ Elon Musk announced on Twitter that his Tesla truck Semi is going into production. The first company to be able to take advantage of it will be Pepsi, starting December 1.
📉 The fast fashion company Shein has been valued between $65 and $85 billion on the private markets in recent months. That number was over $100 billion in April.
👑 As rising rates make gold less attractive as an investment, there is a global migration in the gold market: western investors are dumping it while Asian buyers are taking advantage of falling prices to buy gold to make jewelry. As a result, large volumes of the metal are being withdrawn from Wall Street vaults and headed east. Since peaking in March, the price of gold has fallen 18%.
Have a nice evening and a good start of the week !

📰 Good evening to all of you! I hope the beginning of the weekend is going well.
🏦 Despite the rate hikes, inflation persists and FED officials are concerned that they are not doing enough to combat rising prices. They are convinced that the downside of restrictive measures (large interest rate hikes) is negligible compared to the potential consequences of responding too timidly.
🔥 Indeed, inflation in the US is at a 40-year high, with prices excluding food and energy up 6.6% from 2021. Everything, therefore, points to a further interest rate hike at the November FED meeting. Against all odds, the markets moved higher after falling sharply in the morning 🤷. Maybe investors think the worst is over.
🥤Pepsi's results this season have exceeded expectations: 20% earnings growth in the last quarter and higher annual guidance.
🕵️ BeReal has become the social network with the most downloaded app! Except that it only has 9% of daily active users according to some sources...
🤑 Slides from an Amazon meeting have leaked: they ask employees to "redouble their frugality." While the web giant has always been known to be more frugal than its competitors, the recent economic downturn has put more pressure on the company to cut costs.
🍿 Netflix will launch its "Essential with Ads" package in November for €5.99 per month. Each of Netflix's ads will last between 15 and 30 seconds and will be placed before and during programs. Subscribers will have access to much of Netflix's programming but without the ability to download content.
🤯 87% of American teens own an iPhone twice as many as in 2012. Wow!
🌖 SpaceX confirms the booking of the first tourist flight around the moon: Wilshire Associate (investment advisory firm) founder Dennis Tito and his wife will be the first tourists to make the trip aboard the Starship spacecraft. This mission won't happen for several years, even though Tito is already 82 years old...
🛢U.S. banks have earned more than $1 billion in revenue from fossil fuel investments since the beginning of 2022. All this while they talk about carbon neutrality for the next few years...
📉 Taiwanese chipmaker TSMC has cut its 2022 CAPEX target by about 10%, a sign of the challenges facing the tech industry as it is hit by added US trade restrictions on China.
🍏 Apple announced that Apple Card users will be able to open a new "high rate" savings account with Goldman Sachs and automatically deposit their Daily Cash into it, free of charge.
🇫🇷 🇩🇪 France has delivered natural gas to Germany as part of a bilateral deal to offset energy deficits. As Europe turns to other energy sources, President Vladimir Putin has proposed that Turkey become a "gas hub" to export gas to Europe.
🤯 ByteDance, the parent company of TikTok, is in talks with music labels to expand its music streaming service Resso globally to compete with Spotify.
Have a nice day and a great weekend!

📰 Good evening to all of you! I hope you had a great weekend. We're getting into the hard stuff of financial results this week with many banks set to announce. Is the economy suffering or not so much? Tesla will also be at the meeting. So get ready for a lot of turbulence up or down depending on the results announced...
📊 Important financial results announcements for the week are:
▪️17/10: Bank of America, Charles Schwab, and Bank of New York Mellon
▪️18/10: Johnson & Johnson, Lockheed Martin, United Airlines, Goldman Sachs, and Netflix
▪️19/10: Tesla, Procter & Gamble, Abbott Laboratories, Travelers Companies, Las Vegas Sands, and IBM
▪️20/10: Philip Morris International, Hermès, Kering, L'Oréal, Pernod Ricard, and Vivendi
▪️21/10: Verizon, American Express, Barclays, Essilor Luxottica, Renault, and Faurecia
😱 US health insurance prices recorded their largest annual increase, rising 28.2% between September 2021 and September 2022. Of the products tracked by the BLS (US Bureau of Labor Statistics), only eggs, margarine, airline tickets, food in canteens, fuel and gas saw larger year-over-year increases. Hard on inequality when you consider how important this expense item is in the US.
😖 Less than 50% of the 12 US and European fast delivery startups launched during the pandemic are still in business. That hurts...
🍏 Apple is expected to introduce its mixed-reality headset (merging real and virtual worlds to produce new environments) next year. Even if Meta has had the advantage of selling products in this category for 7 years since the acquisition of Oculus, Apple's device will have some technological assets... Including an iris scanner according to rumors! Apple's headset is expected to have the ability to scan the eye of people wearing the headset so they can log into their own account or confirm payment in a split second.
😩 Internal documents from Meta detail the difficulties regarding their metaverse: Horizon Worlds. It only has 200,000 monthly active users while the goal was 500,000 by the end of 2022.
🇨🇳 President Xi Jinping sends a clear message to those who want to thwart China's rise: 'You will fail'. In a speech on Sunday, the Chinese leader said his country is "well positioned to continue its development and ensure its security." He also said he was ready to face the growing challenge from the United States, referring in particular to the Taiwan episode.
💰 Binance's mining service, Binance Pool, is launching a $500 million fund to provide 18 to 24-month loans to bitcoin miners, who are currently struggling.
