The NHS plans to DNA test every newborn in the UK within the next decade. Framed as a revolution in “predictive healthcare,” this initiative is part of the government’s Life Sciences Sector Plan, with £650 million in funding behind it.
But let’s be clear: this isn’t about preventing disease. Most diseases aren’t genetic — they’re driven by environment, diet, stress, and social conditions. So why collect everyone’s DNA at birth?
Because DNA is the new gold.
Your genome is the most personal, unchangeable data you have. In the hands of governments, corporations, and AI systems, it’s not healthcare — it’s long-term leverage. For tracking. For profiling. For profit.
