Today is #DataProtectionDay!

Protecting your privacy and data is central to Brave's mission. Here are some of the ways we've enhanced Brave users' privacy since last January 28th...

1. Localhost Resource Permission
Brave now has more powerful features for controlling which sites can access local network resources and for how long. brave.com/privacy-updates/27…

2. Off-the-Record Mode
Brave's OTR mode assists people who need to hide their browsing behavior from others who have access to their devices. For example, this could be helpful for a victim of intimate partner violence who needs to find support services without their partner knowing. brave.com/privacy-updates/26…

3. Forgetful Browsing
Forgetful Browsing allows users to always clear cookies and other storage when the site is closed. This lets you automatically log out when you leave a site. It can stop sites from rate limiting you (e.g., β€œyou have X remaining articles to view”) and reidentifying you across visits. brave.com/privacy-updates/25…

4. Google Sign-In Changes
Brave now better protects your privacy when you're using the legacy Google Sign-In system. The browser lets you safely use Google Sign-In without needing broad third-party cookie exceptions, and without confusing and overly broad Storage Access API prompts. brave.com/privacy-updates/24…

5. "Open in App" Annoyances Blocking
Website pop-ups asking you to switch to an app are now blocked for all Brave users. The feature, which debuted on iOS in late 2022, was rolled out to Android and desktop this past March. brave.com/privacy-updates/23…

6. HTTPS by Default
Brave implemented the most protective, aggressive default HTTPS policy of any popular browser to increase Web security and privacy. Brave now upgrades all sites to HTTPS, falling back to HTTP only if the site does not support HTTPS, or in the rare case a site is known to not function correctly when loaded over HTTPS. brave.com/privacy-updates/22…

7. Brave Firewall + VPN on desktop
Brave Firewall+VPN, previously released on mobile, debuted on desktop so users can now encrypt and protect their connections across all devices. brave.com/desktop-vpn/

8. AI tools that enhance your browsing experience while putting your privacy first.
Brave Search’s Summarizer provides quick answers with citations at the top of your results page. Brave Leo is an AI assistant that helps you gather information and create content right in the browser. Both were built with privacy as the top priority. brave.com/ai-summarizer/ brave.com/leo/

Our privacy team is hard at work developing new ways to keep you private and safe online because every day is data protection day at Brave. Stay tuned for more details!
