In this thread, I will be sharing some helpful tips on how to break the aforementioned habits. But before that, I'd like to take it one step at a time.
The mistake many of us often make is that we say to ourselves "Let me try this. I will just do it for a while, and then stop later."
The truth is that it's never easy to stop. Why? The dopamine effect or "feel-good" hormones that these habits generate are very high, thus, you will have to indulge in them again and again to feel good.
And before you know it, days will start turning to weeks, weeks turning to months, and months turning to years - and an escape is becoming almost impossible.
Yet, the emotional, psychological, spiritual, and physical consequences are hitting you even harder!
It is at this juncture that you will realize that you've been trapped already.
But...,
WHAT REALLY IS THE WAY OUT??
HOW CAN I COME OUT OF THIS MESS??
In case you find yourself struggling with any of these habits, please DON'T DIE IN SILENCE. THERE'S A WAY OUT!
- Make a decision to stop right now
- Repent genuinely and ask God for help
- Detach yourself from people, environment, platforms, etc. that seduce/pressure you into it
- Beware of the kind of content you read/watch online. Unfollow/Block any content creator that publishes content that easily makes you return to the habit.
- Feed your mind with the word of God (by studying the Bible, Listening to Sermons and Audio Bibles. You can get over 10,000 materials on our website. Visit www.naijasermons.com.ng/available-sermons)
- Read books on Habit Formation and replacement (I recommend Atomic Habits by James Clear & The Power of Habits by Charles Duhigg)
- Start associating with genuine believers and people who challenge/inspire you to grow spiritually
- Get busy. Addiction thrives in secrecy and idleness.
- Get an accountability partner
- Seek professional help
Perhaps you don't find yourself indulging in any of these habits, you are not missing anything at all, please don't let anyone seduce or pressure you into it!
It will cost you more than you could ever imagine. It will take God's Grace and lots of effort to regain yourself and recover from your loss.
The best cure is for you to not even get into it in the first place.
Please Share this. You might be saving someone out there too!
