Spiritual practice does not happen when an action is performed with ego. It happens when there is an absence of ego.

Actions performed out of ego do not give us the experience of God as God has no ego. When ego begins to reduce, then spiritual progress occurs, or in other words - spiritual practice happens appropriately.
