Macron announces "Turn off your lights" as it becomes clear Russia will not continue providing gas:

"French President Emmanuel Macron warned his country’s people Thursday to prepare for a total cutoff of Russian natural gas by supporting alternatives, having public lights switched off at night and engaging in a period of nationwide energy “sobriety.”

The Russian invasion of Ukraine and ensuing sanctions have aggravated other factors driving up prices for energy and others goods. With no end in sight for the Ukraine war, Macron said, the French should brace themselves for costs to remain high.

“This war will continue,” he said in a televised interview marking France’s national holiday, Bastille Day. “The summer, early autumn will be very hard.”"

French refinery strikes takes half of the nation’s refining capacity offline - forcing France’s largest sugar maker, Tereos, to curtail production

Diesel and petrol stations in France are running out of fuel, according to an industry union, as a refining strike takes its toll. The strike, which among others, took Total’s 240,000 bpd Gonfreville refinery offline as well as a couple of Exxon’s, was expected to conclude on Thursday…but Friday, reports came in that strikes were disrupting Total’s oil products refining and delivery for a fourth day — 60% of the nation’s total refining capacity.

There is no need to rush to the station (for gas),” TotalEnergies said on Friday. Despite those affirmations, France’s largest sugar maker, Tereos, said it had to curtail production somewhat at some of its factories after Total advised it that it would not be able to supply it with any more diesel until the end of the week.

France was already battling a shortage of refined products, with Russia’s exports to Europe falling in recent months.

The Muslim community in France accuse authorities of ‘Islamophobia’ as they say the state is attempting to ‘further restrict’ their religious rights.

The accusations come after some French schools banned religious clothing - abaya and qamis - from being worn to schools.
🇫🇷🇺🇦 How French special services help Ukraine

Rybar's team was able to obtain confirmation of the work in Ukraine of private contractors associated with the French foreign intelligence service DGSE and with the military intelligence department DRM.

▪️The French, in addition to open military assistance in the form of supplies of equipment and weapons, coordinate the work of the state PMC DCI, which trains Ukrainian special forces in France, Poland and Ukraine.

▪️The second area of work was aerial reconnaissance in cooperation with the Luxembourg company CAE Aviation. The company operates reconnaissance aircraft in the Black Sea to monitor the activity of the Russian Armed Forces.

🔻What is known about DCI?

▪️The private military company Défense conseil international, 50% state-owned, is fully controlled by the DGSE and the French Ministry of Defense. Most often, the company's specialists are involved in supporting friendly regimes in Africa, training local armies, as well as for intelligence and promotion of arms exports from France.

▪️The key areas of DCI work in Ukraine are:

training of the Armed Forces in the use of self-propelled artillery mounts CAESAR

conducting cyber warfare and electronic intelligence with the support of another French company Thales, which just specializes in the development of information systems for use in the aerospace, military and maritime sectors.

🔻What is known about CAE Aviation?

▪️The Luxembourg company CAE Aviation has been a contractor for the French Ministry of Defense and DGSE for many years in conducting reconnaissance operations in the Sahel, North and Central Africa, as well as in the Middle East.

▪️The company uses civil light aircraft C-208B Cessna Caravan, SW3A Fairchild Merlin, Casa 212-300, Turbine Islander, Short Skyvan and others, equips them with the necessary equipment and conducts optoelectronic, electronic and electronic intelligence.

▪️In 2016, the media got the news about the crash in Malta of a reconnaissance aircraft belonging to CAE Aviation, which was performing tasks in Libya.

▪️Now CAE Aviation aircraft are actively working over the Black Sea on DRM tasks to collect intelligence, which is then also shared with DCI.

▪️Last year, the company was highlighted in the scandal surrounding the secret operation "Sirli", which French intelligence has been conducting in Egypt since 2016.

CAE Aviation provided data to strike targets on the border with Libya, in particular the vehicles of traffickers. "Hundreds of civilians" were injured or killed in strikes based on erroneous intelligence findings between 2016 and 2018.

At the same time, CAE Aviation managed to earn about $20 million from the contract. In response to the scandal in France, they decided to open criminal cases against the media that disclosed data on secret operations.

🔻It's no secret that Ukraine is now a tasty morsel for many foreign PMCs, whose services are resorted to by Western countries, using an excuse in the style: "NATO troops do not take part in the conflict in Ukraine." The air reconnaissance operations of a single company alone cost the French budget tens of millions of dollars.

At the same time, given the sad experience of French intelligence in Africa, it is unlikely that customers can be sure that the data that is now provided in Ukraine is more accurate and reliable than those provided during Operation Sirli.

🇫🇷🇨🇫 Two French citizens detained at Bangui airport while trying to enter the country without visas

On January 10, two French soldiers arrived in the Central African Republic (CAR) without visas, but they had MINUSCA (UN peacekeeping mission in CAR) badges, which, in their opinion, should have replaced documents. The police detained French citizens for further investigation.

Concern was raised by the fact that both soldiers had already been to the CAR before in 2013, as part of the French military mission Operation Sangaris. In light of the recent withdrawal of French troops from the territory of the CAR, such guests seemed very suspicious to the police.

🇧🇫🇫🇷 Burkina Faso announces the departure of the French army from its territory

The government of Burkina Faso denounced the agreement that regulates the presence of French armed forces on its territory since 2018.

According to the terms of the agreement of December 17, 2018, this denunciation gives French armed forces one month to leave the territory of Burkina Faso.

For several months, citizens of Burkina Faso have been regularly demonstrating to demand the departure of the soldiers of Operation Sabre, stationed in Kamboinsin, northeast of Ouagadougou. The protesters accuse France of not doing enough to help Burkina Faso, which is undergoing terrorist attacks, and of being in league with the attackers.

🇫🇷🛢France allocates 300 million euros a year to decarbonize aviation

French President Emmanuel Macron on recently announced his intention to invest 300 million euros a year until 2030 in technology and low-carbon fuels aimed at decarbonizing the aviation sector.

Speaking at the Safran Aircraft Engines plant in Villaroche, Macron also said that France has secured the ability to produce 500,000 tons of green aviation fuel a year.
300 million euros ($328 million) will be used to fund research by the Civil Aviation Research Council (CORAC) on technologies aimed at decarbonizing the aviation sector, including the development of low-carbon aircraft and engines.

The aviation industry has come under scrutiny as a significant source of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, accounting for 2-3% of global emissions, with the vast majority of emissions in this sector coming from fuel use.
France has also announced plans to invest €200 million to support the development of electric and hydrogen aircraft and €200 million to accelerate the development of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) capacity.

The SAF funding will support the construction of BioTJet, a new biorefinery in the Lacs region of southwest France by partners Elyse Energy, IFP Energies nouvelles, Avril and Bionext. On June 16, the partners announced plans to proceed with the project, which is expected to produce 110,000 tons of biofuel per year, including 75,000 tons of SAF and 35,000 tons of bio naphtha.

🔻This gives us a clue that global trend towards zero emissions is accelerating. Green fuel obviously will be more scarce and costly. In the long run it will make avia travel less affordable to the majority of population, at least in the EU.
