🇸🇰🇺🇦 The presidential elections in Slovakia were won by the speaker of the country's parliament, Peter Pellegrini, with a 53.12% victory. His rival, former Slovak Foreign Minister Ivan Korcok, received 46.87%.
Many media outlets are quick to publish headlines like "the opponent of arms supplies to Ukraine has won!" or "the proponent of conflict resolution has won!"
But does this signal significant changes in Slovakia’s foreign policy?
▪️ On the issue of weapon supply, it has been noted that the Slovak government provided support in the initial phase of the conflict, but due to Ukraine's extensive weapon reserves, there is currently little to offer. Furthermore, Slovakia sacrificed its own aviation capabilities for these supplies and had to seek airspace coverage from neighboring countries.
▪️ Additionally, criticism towards Ukraine, including from various European populist politicians and even former supporters like ex-president Zuzana Caputova, has become more apparent.
▪️ Therefore, a significant shift in Slovakia’s policy towards the Ukrainian conflict could be seen in the form of a ban on weapon transit and other aid to Ukraine. However, as Slovak leaders have not shown the courage to broach this topic, such a resolution seems unlikely. Meanwhile, military equipment continues to be supplied.
🔻In essence, Slovakia, under the leadership of relatively conservative but EU-dependent figures like Pellegrini and Fico, continues to draw closer to Hungary, maintains a suitable foreign policy stance, and emphasizes national rhetoric in domestic affairs.
This approach could also benefit potential relations with Russia, provided expectations are kept realistic. #Slovakia #Russia #Ukraine @rybar

🇭🇺🇸🇰🇪🇺 Against the backdrop of the adoption in Georgia of a bill on transparency of foreign influence, the European Commission failed to agree on a text of a statement condemning this political move. The authorities of Hungary and Slovakia, who call for limiting the functioning of NGOs and NPOs funded from abroad in the EU countries, opposed it.
▪️ The ruling coalition of Slovakia proposes to mark organizations receiving more than 5,000 euros per year in foreign funding as agents with foreign support, and also to make the form of annual financial reporting for such institutions more detailed.
▪️ The political advisor to the Prime Minister of Hungary, Balazs Orban, noted that bills similar to the Georgian one should be considered in all European countries to make the activities of NGOs more transparent. It is worth recalling that in December 2023, a law was already passed in Hungary to ban foreign financing of Hungarian parties.
📌 It is worth noting that the Prime Minister of Slovakia, Robert Fico, who was the victim of an assassination attempt, has made many enemies, including due to the Slovak authorities' intention to complicate the work of pro-American organizations. It is possible that now, three weeks before the European Parliament elections, globalist forces will try in every possible way to weaken and discredit right-wing figures, firstly, to preserve seats for all convenient politicians, and secondly, to simply make them less vocal with their initiatives.
