According to BBC data, from Feb 2022 to Feb 2025, Russia earned $939B from fossil fuel exports—three times more than the $309B Ukraine received in Western aid.

Brussels has announced its new strategy for the Black Sea region. EU Enlargement Commissioner Marta Kos said that the Black Sea "is a bridge to the South Caucasus and Central Asia, and is a vital artery for energy and food trade." Here, Ukraine, Bulgaria, Moldova, Georgia, Turkey, Armenia and Azerbaijan fall within the orbit of the European Union's interests.
