Revealed: Facebook Has a Secret Blacklist of “Dangerous Individuals and Organizations”
📡@G3News: A range of legal scholars and civil libertarians have called on Facebook to publish the secret blacklist so that users know when they are in danger of having a post deleted or their account suspended for praising someone on it. The company has repeatedly refused to do so, claiming it would endanger employees and permit banned entities to circumvent the policy.
Despite the company's claims that disclosing the list would endanger its employees, Facebook's hand-picked Oversight Board has formally recommended publishing all of it on multiple occasions, as recently as August, because the information is in the public interest.
Tier 1: The mostly strictly limited, Facebook users cannot express support or praise groups—includes terror, hate and criminal groups.
Tier 2: “Violent non-state actors,” consists of groups like armed rebels who engage in violence targeting governments rather than civilians—includes factions fighting in Syria’s civil war.
Tier 3: Groups who Facebook determines aren’t violent but frequently engage in “hate speech,” or may turn violent soon.

A new research project led by Facebook’s AI team imagines AI systems that are constantly analyzing peoples’ lives using first-person video.
Researchers have outlined a series of skills it wants these systems to develop, including “episodic memory” (answering questions like “where did I leave my keys?”) and “audio-visual diarization” (remembering who said what when).
