The Ten Commandments (Decalogue) of the Hebrew Bible, or the Old Testament, are undisputedly of fundamental significance for communities, societies and cultures of the Judeo-Christian tradition. Within the context of this tradition, it is almost a commonplace expectation that any religious tradition possesses, or should possess, a basic set of moral principles similar to the Ten Commandments.
Naturally two rather distinct, but connected questions arise:
1) Does Quran directly or indirectly refer or allude to the Ten Commandments of the Bible?
2) Does Quran has its own indigenous equivalent of the Ten Commandments? If so, where and in what context does it appear, and whether it does resemble the biblical version or differs from it?
In this presentation we argue that the answer to the above two questions is positive. Verses 22-39 of Surah 17 Al-Isra which it's other name is Israelites are Quranic indigenous equivalents of the Ten Commandments and the fact these verses are part of this Surah is an indication of they are the counterpart of the Ten Commandments of the Hebrew scripture.
