Hello world.
Welcome!
Well we’re up to 22 subscribers. That was fast 🔥. Welcome everyone to The Bitcoin Brief. I’ll be posting daily analysis and resources on Bitcoin, Ethereum, DeFi, and Web 3.0. -Ryan A
Two quick resources for today... then heading to sleep in Bali.

1. Today’s Bankless podcast interviews Lyn Alden. It explains what is happening in the USA today related to monetary policy and social unrest (first 50%) of podcast) and how that will impact BTC and ETH over the next decade (second half of podcast). Absolutely essential listening for anyone wanting to understand the unrest on the left and the right of the political spectrum, the fundamental cause (stagnating real incomes due to dollar debasement), and how we can create a better monetary system in the 2020s.

For anyone who wants to understand the fundamental reasons why ETH is up 113% the last month...

1. Read The Infinite Machine by Camila Russo on Kindle

2. Here is a good 70 page PDF on Ethereum 2.0 explaining how ETH has become the fundamental building block for DeFi and the new decentralized internet...

Here are some resources to understand what's happening right now with Bitcoin, Ethereum, and the general blockchain ecosystem.

I recommend:

1. Read this deck from Skybridge to understand the Wall St. perspective: https://files.constantcontact.com/4e269f68301/49e4cc09-f9ef-48a2-a5e5-944ed5c7da95.pdf?fbclid=IwAR3HZeItu3w4ONBL32PYTj7551PFdDryRNPcoP-Vg6okOdXng7YEhwavOHQ

Helpful Podcasts to Subscribe To:
1. The Breakdown podcast by Nathaniel Whittemore
2. The Bankless podcast
3. The Pomp Podcast

The TL:DR of this all is:

1. BTC and ETH have made a lot of progress in the last three years since 2017 and are becoming the new global standard for monetary exchange this decade. BTC is Digital Money while ETH is the platform layer upon which most blockchain applications are being built, including the entire new world of decentralized finance. BTC has a fixed supply at 21 million coins and is quite scarce. Buy and hold both for 10-15 years.

2. Put about 5% of your assets in BTC and 5% in ETH and then set up an auto investment monthly with $50-$200 or whatever you can afford. Don't invest what you can't afford to lose. That said, it will likely increase quite a bit this decade, with lots of ups and downs. I expect BTC 500k by end of decade and ETH 10k. I suggest a 50/50 portfolio (50% BTC, 50% ETH) or a 50/40/10 portfolio if you want to invest in some of the better altcoins with meaningful utility.

3. It’s very rare (unprecedented in my lifetime) that my Harvard Business School MBA friends, software developer friends, and Burning Man friends are ALL saying the same thing about where this is going in 10 years (a new global monetary system)

4. I’d recommend dedicating a couple hours to reading up. This moment is the equivalent of 1994 for the internet—but for the reworking of the global monetary system upon the internet in a decentralized manner that is actually fair and non-inflationary rather than central banks continually debasing the fiat currency, reducing the real wages of the poor continually, and leading to greater inequality.

5. Buy a little bit each week on automatic using Coinbase/Coinbase Pro/Binance/Gemini/Kraken etc. If you are taking a bigger position consider using Coinbase Pro for lower fees. If you’re investing over $100k you can consider a bitcoin fund like NYDIG or Pantera. If you’re buying over $1M consider using Genesis Prime for trading, custody, and insurance.

I recommend buying and holding 10-15 years and not worrying about week to week fluctuations. Focus on stacking sats and stacking eth, and not the short term fluctuations in their USD value. Buy and hold. Buy and hold. Buy and hold.

This group is for people who want to understand the macro trends and technological innovation. Nothing here is intended as financial advice. Please do your own research.
