On March 9, 1943, exactly 76 years ago, Oswald Wirth died - a French occultist, one of the founders of the Kabbalistic Order of the Rose + Cross, a freemason, an artist.

Oswald Wirth was born on August 5, 1860 in Brienz (Switzerland). By his knowledge of the occult, he was obliged to Stanislas de Guaite, to whom he was very grateful for that. Wirth met Marquis de Guaita in 1887, and, being his friend and collaborator, worked as his secretary. Stanislas de Guaita helped Wirth to sharpen his literary style.

In 1889, Wirth created, under the guidance of de Guaita, 22 Major Arcanes for “Tarot kabbalistique”. These cards were based on the images of the Marseille Tarot, but some changes were made to them that included occult symbolism in the Major Arcana.

Oswald Wirth wrote several essays on Freemasonry (including the three-volume book “La Franc-Maçonnerie rendue intelligible à ses adeptes”), astrology, tarot, alchemy.

In 1883, de Guaita received from Catulle Mendès, who became interested in him, the book "The Teaching and Ritual of High Magic" by Eliphas Levi. In 1884, de Guaita met in Paris with Joséphin Péladan, and after this meeting he decided to devote himself entirely to the occultism. Together they attempted to restore the Brotherhood of the Rose + Cross on the basis of lineage from "Toulouse Order of the Rosicrucians." After the death of Firmin Boissin, head of the Order, they converted the Order of Toulouse into the Kabbalistic Order of the Rose + Cross. The Order was accepted by Gérard Encausse (Papus). During the 1889-1891s, Papus organized the "Supreme Council of the Martinist Order", which includes Stanislas de Guaita, who became the author of some of the teaching materials of the Martinist Order. Stanislas de Guaita is the author of the famous Trilogy on the Occult Sciences “The Serpent of the Book of Genesis”.

On October 12, in Paris, the conference "De Monsieur Philippe à Enel, un siècle d'ésotérisme" ("From Monsieur Philippe to Enel - the Age of Esoterics") was held, dedicated to the life and works of prominent figures in the occult sciences in France from the late XIX - early XX centuries, such like Dr. Papus, Stanislas de Guaita, Oswald Wirth, Joanny Bricaud, Marc Haven, Paul Sedir, Constant Chevillon and others.

During the 1889-1891s, Papus organized the "Supreme Council of the Martinist Order", which includes Stanislas de Guaita, who became the author of some of the teaching materials of the Martinist Order. Stanislas de Guaita is the author of the famous Trilogy on the Occult Sciences “The Serpent of the Book of Genesis”.

Oswald Wirth was born on August 5, 1860 in Brienz (Switzerland). By his knowledge of the occult, he was obliged to Stanislas de Guaite, to whom he was very grateful for that. Wirth met Marquis de Guaita in 1887, and, being his friend and collaborator, worked as his secretary. Stanislas de Guaita helped Wirth to sharpen his literary style.

In 1889, Wirth created, under the guidance of de Guaita, 22 Major Arcanes for “Tarot kabbalistique”. These cards were based on the images of the Marseille Tarot, but some changes were made to them that included occult symbolism in the Major Arcana.

Oswald Wirth wrote several essays on Freemasonry (including the three-volume book “La Franc-Maçonnerie rendue intelligible à ses adeptes”), astrology, tarot, alchemy.
