Each unit of packed red cells usually increases the hemoglobin by 1 gram per 100 mL and hematocrit by 3% in adults who are not actively bleeding.

Blood products should be administered through a 14 to 24 gauge catheter depending on vein size, patient preference, and speed of infusions (Lippincott, 2019). For rapid infusions, use a 14 to 19 gauge catheter.

Observe for signs of contamination, such as clumps, clots, bubbles, or discoloration. Do not administer if contamination is suspected. Inform the blood bank and follow your organization’s policy and procedures.
علائم آلودگی مانند توده‌ها، لخته‌ها، حباب‌ها یا تغییر رنگ را مشاهده کنید. اگر آلودگی مشکوک شد، تزریق را انجام ندهید. به بانک خون اطلاع دهید و سیاست‌ها و روش‌های سازمان خود را دنبال کنید.

When a reaction is suspected, STOP the transfusion and notify the provider and the blood bank.

Hematology: the study of blood

Hemophilia: a blood disorder.
Hematophobia: an abnormal fear of blood
Hemogenesis: a process that new blood is being constantly made by bone marrow

Hemorrhage: bleeding is technically known as hemorrhage
Hematoma: a bruise

Red blood cells (erythrocytes) which carry oxygen within hemoglobin and give blood its red color

White blood cell (leukocyte) that protects against disease

Platelets (thrombocytes) which help blood clot and seal wounds
